Position: Extended Content Standards/Autism Specialist
Location: Exception Children Programs
Salary: Teacher’s Salary Schedule
Term of Employment: 10 month (with option to extend to 11 month)
Reports to: Director of Exceptional Children
Qualifications and Attributes:
- Bachelor degree (or higher) in applied behavioral sciences, psychology, special education, or related field
- Experience in providing educational and/or behavioral services for students with disabilities, including students accessing the Extended Content Standards
- Minimum of five years teaching experience with students with disabilities
- Must possess valid North Carolina teaching license
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Regularly visit schools to provide instructional coaching to Extended Content Standards teachers
- Model effective instructional and behavioral interventions, including evidence-based practices
- Conduct functional behavior assessments and assist with developing behavior intervention plans
- Assist with development of progress monitoring tools and support implementation and analysis of progress monitoring data
- Design and deliver professional learning for teachers and administrators
- Collaborates with school- and district-based colleagues
- Attend IEP meetings, as determined appropriate
- Other duties as assigned
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to communicate orally and in writing with parents, staff, and community members.
- Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of fingering, grasping, kneeling, sitting, walking, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, talking, seeing, hearing, and repetitive motion.
Special Requirements:
- Must possess a valid NC driver’s license.
- CPI certification or willingness to become certified
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with parents, teachers, students, administrators, community leaders, agency representatives, and others.
- Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral forms.
- Ability to develop and compile a variety of records and reports.
- Must be adaptable to performing under stress and when confronted with emergency situations.
