JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION: Drivers Education Instructor
LOCATION: Administrative and Auxiliary Services
- SALARY: Hourly Rate based on Experience
REPORTS TO: School assigned Lead Teacher(s), Driver Education Coordinator & Director of Driver Education, will work collaboratively with site based administration as needed
JOB GOALS: An employee in this position will provide learning experiences to help the students to use the motor vehicles safely, efficiently, and effectively. The Driver Education Instructor will ensure safety of students while participating; establish a welcoming environment for all; and positively influence the students they work with.
QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES:
- Valid North Carolina teaching license.
- Valid NC DMV Driver Education Instructor certificate or NCDPI STEP Program certificate.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain or acquire all necessary Driver Education prerequisites annually or as they expire listed by NCDPI, NC DMV, & Johnston County Public Schools.
- Classroom Instruction
- Deliver curriculum instruction through various methods
- Administer tests/evaluations on the curriculum
- Grade tests/assignments
- Collect payments for the class (if needed)
- Administer Eye tests/Medical screenings and refer to DMV if needed
- Schedule guest speakers
- Keep accurate attendance/grade records of students attending the DE class
- Communicate with parents grades/concerns
- Give final class report to the student to take home to parent
- Supervise students at all times until picked up by parent/guardian.
- Present final class rosters to the Lead DE teacher for addition to the 451 form reporting form
- Behind the Wheel Instruction
- Maintain cleanliness of the DE car (Car Wash provided)
- Maintain adequate maintenance on the DE vehicle (Coordinator will inform when it needs servicing/maintenance)
- Maintain adequate fuel level in the DE car
- Report accurate mileage on the DE car
- Report all accidents to the Coordinator, Director, and Fleet supervisor.
- Obtain RIP forms of students to drive from the Lead teacher
- Check RIP from for eye conditions/medical conditions
- Group students together by age (Oldest to youngest) *Siblings or medical considerations are the only exceptions
- Create a schedule of BTW for students
- Contact student and parent to schedule driving lessons
- Administer BTW lessons and record on the RIP form
- Develop driving routes appropriate for the skill level of the student driver(s)
- Evaluate student’s driving ability to determine Pass/Fail
- Issue Driver Eligibility Certificate to students who pass
- Communicate with parents about student driving evaluation (Progress report)
- Explain next steps to get a Permit to student and parent
- Supervise students at all times until picked up by parent/guardian.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to use a variety of equipment and classroom tools such as computers, copiers, typewriters, calculators, pencils, scissors, and equipment for children with special needs, etc. Must be able to exert a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Due to amount of time spent standing and/or walking, physical requirements are consistent with those for Light Work.
- Must possess the physical ability and visual acuity to operate required equipment and motor vehicles, use measuring devices, and inspect work for accuracy, thoroughness, and adherence to work standards and instructions.
