PHYSICAL THERAPY ASSISTANT (PTA)

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs routine and complex physical therapy tasks as assigned by a licensed physical therapist; including tasks of moderate to high complexity for hospital patients.

Utilizes therapeutic techniques and modalities to provide direct patient care; uses a variety of techniques in applying treatment. Ensures quality of care and initiates treatment promptly. Coordinates care with other disciplines.

Under the direction of a licensed physical therapist, completes necessary documentation, revises goals and treatment plans as needed and communicates information in a timely manner.

Provides appropriate services to meet the needs of the department’s customers as requested but not limited to, effective and consistent communication and the documentation of accurate and timely information.

Appropriately accepts and communicates treatment responsibilities, consistently monitors patient status; communicates proactively with physical therapists; provides education and training to patients and their caregivers. Provides education and communication to support staff and assists in the provision of therapy throughout the rehabilitation continuum.

Independently performs quality control/customer satisfaction procedures, documents results, and investigates and resolves issues, with appropriate supervisory notification of activity. Participates in Quality Improvement/Quality Assurance activities as determined by Johnson Memorial Health (JMH) Administration including organizational operations improvement.

Evaluates current practices and makes appropriate suggestions to improve productivity and enhance expense reduction; assists in the evaluation of new procedures, equipment; monitors the purchasing of supplies and inventory control.

Provides technical guidance for customers as it relates to physical therapy procedures and operations.

Attends meetings inside and outside of JMH as designated. Participates in professional activities and continuing education to maintain professional expertise.

Performs additional duties as required which relate to the function of the hospital.

Clearly communicates and continuously supports the Mission and Values of Johnson Memorial Hospital.

Conducts all activities in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, standards, and hospital policies and procedures including Blood and Body Substance Precautions.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

Must have current Indiana license as a Physical Therapist Assistant.
