What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tree Care Specialist & Landscaping Professional position at Johnson Landscaping Inc?
Tree Care & Landscape Foreman (Equipment Operator)
Johnson Landscaping – Pontiac, MI
Pay: $18.00 – $25.00 per hour (Paid Weekly)
Job Type: Full-time
About the Role
Are you a natural leader who is as comfortable managing a crew and building a paver patio as you are operating a bucket truck or a mini skid steer? We are looking for a versatile, safety-conscious Tree Care & Landscape Foreman to join our team.
This is a dynamic leadership role for someone who thrives on variety and takes pride in high-quality craftsmanship. One day you’ll be leading technical tree removals from a bucket truck; the next, you’ll be operating a mini skid steer to prep a site for a high-end paver patio or retaining wall. Pay starts between $18–$25/hour, strictly dependent on your leadership experience, landscape skills, and equipment proficiency.
What You’ll Be Doing
- On-Site Leadership: Lead, manage, and motivate crew members to complete daily landscape, hardscape, and tree care projects safely and on schedule.
- Hardscape Installation: Layout and construct high-end retaining walls, paver patios, walkways, and steps with precision.
- Equipment Operation: Safely and skillfully operate mini skid steers (for grading, excavation, and material moving) as well as a bucket truck for technical tree work.
- Tree Operations & Ground Support: Perform safe pruning, deadwooding, and removals from the bucket, while overseeing proper rigging, wood chipping, and meticulous site cleanup.
- Safety & Maintenance: Enforce strict safety protocols (including ANSI Z133 for tree work) and perform daily maintenance checks on the bucket truck, mini skid steer, chainsaws, and hand tools.
- Client Communication: Serve as the professional on-site point of contact for clients, ensuring excellent customer service and project quality control.
Technical Skills Checklist
- Hardscape Expertise: Strong, verifiable experience building retaining walls, patios, and handling stone/paver work.
- Compact Equipment Proficiency: Demonstrated experience operating mini skid steers (e.g., Dingo, Bobcat MT, Vermeer) for grading and site prep.
- Bucket Operation: Proficient in positioning and operating an aerial lift/bucket truck near structures and utility lines.
- Chainsaw Proficiency: Expert level in starting, operating, and basic sharpening/maintenance.
- Horticultural Knowledge: Ability to distinguish between "weed" and "seed" during landscape installations and maintenance.
- Rigging (Preferred): Knowledge of lowering lines and friction devices for tree removal is a major plus.
Requirements
- Experience: Minimum 1–2 years of leadership/Foreman experience in tree care, professional landscaping, and hardscaping.
- License: Valid Driver’s License (CDL or experience driving large truck/trailer combos is preferred but not required).
- Physical Stamina: Ability to lift 50 lbs and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Reliability: We pay weekly and on time; we expect you to show up the same way.
Why Join Us?
- Weekly Pay: Get paid every Friday—no waiting two weeks for your check.
- Professional Growth: Run a crew with top-tier, well-maintained equipment in a safety-first working environment.
- Variety: Every day brings a different challenge, from technical tree removals to beautiful hardscape builds.
