The Biomarker Laboratory Lead is responsible for the day to day operations and management of the Springhouse Biomarker and Clinical Pathology Laboratory. The Biomarker Laboratory Lead will report to the Global Biomarker Head. The Biomarker group is part of the Predictive, Investigative and Translational Toxicology group (PITT) within Janssen’s Non-clinical Safety Organization. Responsibilities include:
The Biomarker Laboratory Lead is responsible for planning and coordinating laboratory activities for diverse scientific projects. The Biomarker Laboratory Lead will supervise laboratory staff to execute projects within allotted budget and timelines while ensuring that lab procedures comply with high quality standards. The Biomarker Laboratory Lead will develop and maintain lab procedures, experimental protocols and work instructions.
The Biomarker Laboratory Lead will conduct data interpretation and integration in the context of the preclinical study findings, furnish research reports and present to management for review. The Biomarker Laboratory Lead will review and recommend improvements to lab procedures. The Biomarker Laboratory Lead will stay current with latest developments in research techniques and technologies and will have final responsibility for data generated by the laboratory.
The ideal candidate will provide guidance and conduct trainings to team members when needed and assure career development for direct reports. The ideal candidate will enforce company policies and safety regulations for operational efficiency. The ideal candidate will identify new equipment needs and report the same to management as well as maintain inventory control of laboratory equipment and tools.
The Biomarker Laboratory Lead will collaborate closely with a variety of NCS groups such as investigative toxicology, pathology, immunotoxicology as well as Non-Clinical Safety Leads and project team members. The Biomarker Laboratory Lead will be the driver for evaluation and implementation of innovative assays/ platforms for novel safety biomarker development. The Biomarker Laboratory Lead will have the opportunity to develop novel, fit-for-purpose biomarkers for pipeline molecules and participate in related external consortia.
Qualifications
Required:
PhD in biochemistry, pharmacology, toxicology, biology with 6-8 years of pharmaceutical experience including laboratory and people management or MS with 10-12 years of experience is required.
- Recognized subject matter expertise across multiple biomarker capabilities/platforms.
- Experience developing and applying biomarker strategies to understand safety in nonclinical species, and relevant translation to human.
- Ability to work across functional lines and geographical locations, to effectively communicate with lab functions both within and outside Biomarkers such as project safety leads, pathology and investigative, toxicology colleagues and study directors.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills are a necessity, as well as the ability to multitask across a diverse portfolio of projects.
