BRIEF DESCRIPTION:

This is a non-supervisory position in a non-sworn capacity. Personnel assigned will take responsibility that all property and evidence submitted to or stored in the Johnson County Sheriff's Office is handled and documented properly.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Transports evidence by operating a County vehicle; transporting evidence to and from crime labs

Develops and maintains manuals and training aides regarding evidence collection procedures and provides training on these issues for all Deputy's at the S.O.

Maintains of packaging supplies

Receives incoming property and evidence by picking up property from lockers; moving property to the central property area; logging property in; and placing property in appropriate bins

Completes clerical duties by entering data into the computer; preparing, logging and submitting court orders for legal signatures; and preparing, copying and submitting documents for cases requiring an appearance in court

Conducts research and destruction duties by obtaining county dispositions from various entities; preparing a court order for disposal; submitting that order for disposal; submitting that order for signature; puling the property from shelving; and either destroying the property or preparing it for auction.

J0B REQUIREMENTS:

 

READING

Ability to read and understand memos, police and other reports.

Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions, laws, and Departmental policies and procedures.

MATH

Ability to perform basic math calculations, including units of measure

WRITING

Ability to write reports using proper English and grammar

Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions, laws, and

departmental policies

MANAGERIAL

Ability to think and act independently without requiring specific instructions to complete tasks

BUDGET RESPONSIBILITY

Ability to work within a budget and project future needs for job functions

SUPERVISORY/ORGANIZATIONAL CONTROL

Will attend staff or Commissioner Court meetings if requested

COMPLEXITY

Ability to learn operation of modern media equipment

CUSTOMER SERVICE

Ability to learn and use proper customer service habits both internally and externally

INTERPERSONAL/HUMAN RELATION SKILLS

Ability to deal effectively with the general public and other county personnel in a courteous manner

 

 

 

 

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE. SKILLS. AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge in Photography, Criminalistics, and Physical Science (Biology/Biochemistry, Chemistry, or Forensic Science) is highly desirable. Applicant should have strong organizational skills.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's Degree in Criminalistics or related field with directly related experience in warehouse or inventory control, preferably in a police setting would be desirable;

CERTIFICATEDS AND LICENSES REQUIRES:

Applicants must complete a personal history packet

If required applicant must pass the following selections criteria: background investigation; oral interview; medical physical; psychological exam; and drug and alcohol testing

A valid Class C Texas motor vehicle driver's license and the ability to maintain a satisfactory driving record ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS AND SAFETY HAZARDS:

Primarily indoor office environment with the ability to operate outdoors when needed. May be exposed to extreme heat and cold during summer and winter months

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:

Must be able to understand and read measuring devices. Must have the ability to learn laboratory equipment used in processing evidence and crime scenes. Must be able to use basic hand tools such as hammers, screwdrivers, pliers, etc.
