GENERAL SUMMARY
Performs maintenance and repairs on vehicles and road maintenance equipment; and maintains shop related equipment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by incumbents of this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.
· Performs repair work and maintenance on gas, diesel, electric and hydraulic engines; and logs maintenance performed
· Schedules, inspects, repairs and maintains automotive and mechanical equipment and machinery using hoists, hand tools, gauges, drill, grinding wheels and testing devices.
· Maintains inventory of spare parts, tools, equipment and related materials.
· Tests equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation, which includes changing oil, checking batteries, repairing and replacing tires and tubes and lubricating equipment and machinery.
· Operates heavy equipment and service truck; and assists with road repairs, sign work, brush/tree cutting and chipping.
· Assists in training others on equipment operation.
· Performs other related duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
· Employees are required to comply with safety regulations, procedures, protocols, OSHA standards, and wear personal protective gear if required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
6 months to 1 year of advanced study or training beyond high school equivalency, with under and including 1 year related experience. Combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions listed above can be substituted.
Certifications and/or Licenses
· Valid CDL (Commercial Driver’s License)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES
· Knowledge of and ability to operate various types of heavy equipment and trucks
· Ability to diagnose and repair
· Ability to use hand and power tools
· Ability to locate parts and vendors
· Basic knowledge of tractors, tires, high pressure compressors and tools
· Knowledge of Precinct roads
· Knowledge of safety procedures with equipment use, traffic hazards and chemicals
· Familiarity with automotive and diesel parts
· Work independently
· Read, analyze, and interpret standards, policies, procedures, and regulations
· Handle common inquiries or complaints
· Exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job
· Operate standard office equipment, such as computer keyboards and monitors, copiers, scanners, and telephone
· Use (or learn to use) computer software and systems applicable to the position
· Follow oral and written instructions and procedures
· Meet schedules and deadlines of the work unit
· Maintain well-organized materials, files, systems and tools
· Adapt to changes in work situations and priorities
· Reason/analyze; use logic to identify and resolve problems
· Establish and maintain constructive and cooperative interpersonal relationships with staff, peers, supervisors, or managers in the work unit and other departments, as well as with staff of outside entities and other individuals, as applicable to the essential duties and responsibilities
