The Treasury, Taxation, & Vehicles department provides financial reporting and information services, bills, collects and distributes tax monies, administers an open and competitive procurement process, facilitates the surplus disposal process, issues and administers vehicle registrations and vehicle titles, maintains risk management and insurance programs, pays County obligations, directs centralized accounting and payroll processes, administers employee benefit programs, and performs daily cash management and investments. The Motor Vehicle Division is responsible for the collection and distribution of fees, sales tax, and personal property tax for the State, County, Cities and other taxing authorities that levy taxes and/or fees. Johnson County Government has two motor vehicle locations for walk-in customers, one location for back office functions and 68 employees that provide service to over half a million county residents.
The Treasury, Taxation, & Vehicles is currently looking for qualified applicants to fill the position of Motor Vehicle Supervisor. The Motor Vehicle Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of vehicle titling and registration along with the opening and closing of the office. The supervisor oversees approximately 12 employees;ensuring that exemplary customer service is being provided and that state laws, rules and regulations are followed.
The Supervisor is expected to function not only as a proficient leader, but also a positive and energetic role model for the team and must possess the following:

The Motor Vehicle Supervisor is expected to:
- Build a working knowledge of county and state processes and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with deadlines and statutory regulations, while working in conjunction with the State of Kansas.
- Research and respond to complex customer inquiries and rectify complaints.
- Recommend process improvements and implement changes.
- Research and utilize best practices and new technologies.
- Establish and maintain high standards of safety and security, including the management of cash, checks and credit card transactions to avoid loss.
- Tour the floor regularly, talk to employees and customers, identify and address issues.
- Create training and development programs for new and existing employees.
- Approve timecards, handle scheduling, open/close the office and conduct performance appraisals.
- Provide supervision for both front office locations in the absence of the manager.
- Work successfully in a team environment, as well as independently with minimum management oversight.
One year experience as a retail sales manager, customer service manager, bank branch manager, or closely related position, with emphasis on personnel management, retail operations and business development or relevant experience is required. Valid Driver's License and a good driving record is required. Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Management or relevant field is required. Experience may be substituted for degree.
One year leading, directing, supervising, or coordinating the work of others is preferred.
