What are the responsibilities and job description for the Block Machine Operator position at Johnson Concrete Products?
Johnson Concrete Company is looking for a Block Machine Operator to join our team! The Block Machine Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of concrete block production machinery. This role follows established routines and safety standards to ensure consistent product quality and optimal machine performance. The operator starts, runs, and shuts down equipment, monitors system performance, removes hang-ups, and performs routine maintenance to minimize downtime.
Key Reponsbilities
- Start up, operate, and shut down all block production machinery following established operating procedures and safety guidelines.
- Operate and monitor equipment including, but not limited to: unstacker tower, pallet conveyor, block turn over, cuber, strapper, and the 90-degree transfer.
- Maintain awareness of machine performance to identify irregularities, malfunctions, or unsafe conditions and take appropriate action.
- Safely remove hang-ups, jams, and defective product from all machinery in the work area.
- Keep all machines supplied with required materials, such as 100-lb rolls of steel strapping for the strapper and other production consumables.
- Assist in maintaining steady production flow and cycle times.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks including greasing, cleaning, and general plant clean-up.
- Assist with block testing, mixer cleaning, and equipment repairs as needed.
- Ensure the work area remains organized, clean and free of safety hazards.
- Follow all lock-out/tag-out and safety protocols when performing maintenance or clearing jams.
- Communicate equipment issues or material needs to supervisors, maintenance staff, and quality control personnel.
Competencies and Skills
- Ability to safely operate a forklift and other material-handling equipment.
- Perform basic math functions and understand common units of measurement.
- Recognize safety standards, equipment malfunctions, and hazardous conditions, with the ability to respond appropriately.
- Proficient in the use of hand tools, including hammer, screwdriver, and wrench, as well as power tools such as grinders and drills.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and trouble shooting ability.
- Ability to follow standard operating procedures and work independently or as part of a team.
This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are generally Monday through Friday, 5:00 AM - 5:00 PM based on production needs.
Pay: Starting at $20.00 per hour, based on experience.
