Johnson College is currently seeking a part-time Motor and Controls Instructor for the upcoming spring 2026 semester for an evening course. The Motor and Controls Instructor is responsible for teaching students the principles, operation, installation, and troubleshooting of electric motors and control systems used in HVAC and electrical applications. The instructor will provide both classroom instruction and hands-on lab experiences, preparing students to apply motor and control knowledge in residential, commercial, and industrial environments.

Associate Degree in the subject or related subject taught
Experience
Technical - Minimum of 4 years' experience in the area taught.
Skills
Individuals must have strong communication skills, ability to teach, expertise in their program area, good managerial skills, knowledge of industry standards, assessment skills, organizational and word-processing skills.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Enforce college policies and procedures with all students and within their course of study.

Essential Job Functions
- Teach motor theory, types of motors (single-phase, three-phase and their applications in HVAC and electrical systems.
- Provide instruction on motor starters, relays, contactors, overload protection, and control devices.
- Deliver lessons on wiring diagrams, ladder logic, and schematic interpretation.
- Train students in troubleshooting techniques for motors, controls, and related circuits.
- Emphasize OSHA safety standards, lockout/tagout, and safe handling of electrical components.
- Demonstrate the integration of motors and controls with HVAC systems, compressors, fans, and pumps.
- Supervise hands-on lab work, including motor installation, control panel assembly, and system testing.
- Develop and maintain curriculum, lesson plans, and assessments for course-level outcomes.
- Maintain accurate attendance, progress, and grading records.
- Participation in College activities and events.
