What are the responsibilities and job description for the Custodian position at Johnson City Schools?
Johnson City Schools is looking for a Custodian to perform a variety of custodial duties to maintain the interior and exterior of the premises in a sanitary, orderly, safe and attractive condition at South Side Elementary School. The hours for this position are 1pm-9:30pm.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Ability to read, write, speak and understand English;
2. A minimum of one (1) year experience in custodial or cleaning work preferred;
3. Ability to properly use chemicals, equipment, and work processes used in cleaning and routine maintenance;
4. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others;
5. Ability to learn and follow emergency procedures;
6. Meets necessary health and physical requirements.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Perform routine, scheduled cleaning functions such as trash removal, sweeping, dusting, mopping, vacuuming, washing windows, cleaning restrooms and restocking supplies;
2. Shovel, plow, sweep and maintain steps, walks, driveways, parking areas and playground areas as needed;
3. Promote positive relationships with staff, students, visitors and community members;
4. Perform any assigned special project work or seasonal work;
5. Respond to staff requests, which may include setting up rooms for meetings or class functions, moving furniture/equipment and assisting with deliveries;
6. Perform minor maintenance tasks;
7. Keep assigned areas locked and secure when not in use for school functions;
8. Report all safety hazards to principal/supervisor;
9. Participate actively in all professional development training;
10. Maintain a reliable attendance record;
11. Know and follow safety rules and procedures associated with the responsibilities of the job;
12. Have ability to perform the required physical demands; and
13. Perform other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This job may require lifting of objects weighing up to 100 lbs., with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 lbs. Other physical demands that may be required are as follows:
1. Lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling;
2. Climbing and/or balancing, including ascending and descending stairs;
3. Running, stooping, kneeling, crouching, bending and/or crawling;
4. Reaching, stretching;
5. Vision, correctable to 20/20;
6. Talking and hearing.
