Summary:
The Manager, Perioperative Business Office is responsible for all operational issues in the business office for Perioperative Services which includes patient charges, billing, and scheduling. This position directly impacts the multi-million dollar revenue stream that allows for the financial viability of surgery and the hospital in general by the validation, accuracy, and quick turnover of patient billing. The Manager is a liaison between Perioperative Services and patients, physicians, physician staff, and other departments. The Manager develops and promotes a positive approach to any changes in data collection procedures with relation to the scheduling/billing of patients for Perioperative Services. The Manager ensures that all tasks are completed accurately to assure provision of quality customer services to patients, physicians and their staff, as well as, other health care professionals.
The Manager coordinates with other Perioperative Service departments, Patient Accounts, other departments, and Physician Offices, to provide support including, but not limited to, training/assisting schedulers, monitoring resourced surgery charges, obtain, monitor, and enter miscellaneous surgery cost and charges, monitor RTIF errors, enter and release block time, furnish surgery quotes, adjusting patient charge accounts.
This position is responsible for helping to maintain accurate data with regard to block scheduling and case/supply cost information. This position works hand and hand with Perioperative Business Intelligence since they utilize the Systems and information provided by Perioperative Business Intelligence to create a better functioning Perioperative Support Services.
The Manager, Perioperative Business Office can be called on to lead Perioperative Teams that affect the operational success of Perioperative Services. The Manager is responsible for interviewing, hiring/terminations, giving required correction action, staff scheduling, performance evaluations, quality reviews, time/attendance, staff education/training, coaching, the development, and support to the staff of the Perioperative Business Office. In addition, the Perioperative Business Office Manager will assist Scheduling/Billing staff when necessary and participate in department coverage if/when the need arises during high volumes, illness/injury, or family emergencies.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Business, Healthcare, or related field, or is currently participating in obtaining a Bachelor Degree in an accredited program with a minimum of seven years of quality experience in a medical office, freestanding surgery environment, or other medical environment. In lieu of Bachelor's degree, an Associate's degree in Business, Healthcare, or related field, and ten years of quality experience in a medical office, freestanding surgery environment, or other medical environment. Minimum three years experience in a managerial role. Completion of medical terminology, computer application courses, knowledge of coding and charge master maintenance is also required. Must possess the ability to communicate with employees, patients, and physicians. Must possess the ability to anticipate and solve problems, analyze data and recommend/implement solutions/improvements. Must have strong customer service skills; demonstrate tact and sensitivity in stressful situations. Experience in such a role prior will always be considered when balancing job requirements and education. Demonstrated experience using MS Office (specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
