GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB

The Digital Content Editor works with faculty, staff, students and other contributors to ensure that the University has up to date and appropriate content on all digital channels that is consistent in style, tone, branding and quality and in alignment with other marketing materials that the University is producing. This person must be an expert in graphic design and in the creation of content for digital channels including, but not limited to, website, fundraising campaigns, marketing campaigns, and social media. The person in this role will be responsible for contacting and working with key shareholders across the University to maintain the accuracy of information across platforms. The ideal candidate will have a mastery of the English language and the ability to copyedit, develop compelling graphics, write and proofread a variety of University materials across various media including printed works, digital works, graphics and other marketing materials generated by the University, to ensure a high quality of work and high content standards. Must be able to work within a Content Management System and able to create and understand content calendars for the creation and posting of digital materials. Works with the members of the University Communications and Marketing Department to create content needed for all channels of communication for the University, but primarily focused on digital channels. Reports to the Director of University Communications and Marketing.


SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Create engaging content – graphic design, photographs, videos - for the University’s main social media channels administered by University Communications and Marketing and works with Assistant Director of Digital Communications to maintain a voice and strategy for the website and social media channels.

Responsible for creating content management plans and schedules for updating current and future digital content. Works with deans and department chairs to facilitate the veracity of information shared via social media and other digital channels.

Collaborate with University Communications and Marketing, Office of Alumni Relations, Institutional Advancement, as well as other units within the administration to make sure that communications stay on message and consistent with University branding for all internal and external communications.

Maintain relationships with constituents across the University to create content collaboratively that describes and markets services those department and business units provide for the campus as well as encouraging those departments to work more closely with University Communications and Marketing.

Manage multiple projects simultaneously while collaborating with a number of constituents to create content that is consistent in quality, scope and tone with current University messaging. Prior experience with a content management system (CMS) a plus.

Create and update social media guidelines for the University. Work closely with the Assistant Director of Marketing to maintain the University’s main social media pages, which are administered by UCM.

Provide training on social media guidelines to persons in divisions and departments who administer those pages and ensure compliance with the guidelines. Provide information on tips and trends in social media.

Maintain record of all social media accounts administered by University divisions and departments. Provide appropriate forms to those departments and ensure the forms are signed and kept up-to-date as positions within the departments change.

Must have the ability and resourcefulness to think creatively about how to use content across media so the University maximizes value from content creation efforts. Responsible for creating and curating content for various social media channels and should stay up to date on social media trends. Previous experience managing online communities is a plus as well as prior experience using social media content management and analytics software.

Supervise work study students and student interns assigned to UCM.

Works under general supervision, but a high degree of initiative, accuracy and creativity is required.


ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Performs other duties as required, including writing posts and articles, editing video, drafting correspondence, contributing to the university newsletter.

Maintains a clean and orderly work environment.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Requires a bachelor’s degree in marketing, journalism or communications, supplemented by 2-4 years of experience in the field, preferably in digital marketing and online content management. Excellent attention to detail required. Knowledge of AP-style writing. Experience editing copy with a high degree of precision and accuracy. Familiarity with Microsoft Office (including Publisher, Photoshop and FrontPage); Adobe Acrobat, Illustrator, Photoshop and/or other publishing software. Needs to be familiar with Content Management Systems and how they generally function. Knowledge of HTML and CSS also helpful. The equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.

Writing samples are required.

Salary : $55,000 - $60,000
