We are seeking an experienced engineer to help us design and document test and analysis plans, develop cutting edge analysis tools, and perform test & evaluation, for in-development Navy / Air Force strategic missile systems, including Trident and Sentinel. JHU/APL serves as a trusted partner to multiple government sponsors working on the next generation of strategic systems. In this role, you will lead the development of performance requirements and the planning/execution of test & evaluation activities. As a member of the team, you will also participate in field site testing for some missile systems, including in depth post-flight analysis activities to mature system design and ensure success.

As an Experienced Missile Test & Evaluation Engineer you will...
  • Develop performance requirements and evaluation plans for in-development missile systems
  • Advise government partners on test & evaluation planning and strategy
  • Develop data collection requirements to meet Sponsor objectives
  • Evaluate data products and flight test telemetry to determine missile and reentry body performance during flight tests
  • Perform missile system test and evaluation, primarily in support of the Navy and Air Force strategic and hypersonic missile programs, including assessments of performance, comparing to pre-flight predictions, requirements, and culmulative system assessments
  • Support other group tasking in the areas of missile and reentry body modeling and simulation, range systems evaluation, and field site support for flight tests
  • Create cutting edge analysis tools and visualization methods to support developmental programs
  • Lead and contribute to analysis efforts to include documenting and presenting analysis findings as appropriate to sponsors and representatives of other agencies
  • Support test operations at field sites during missile flight tests
  • Support Sponsor meetings and interactions at various sites around the country

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...
  • Have a B.S. in aerospace engineering or other related technical discipline with relevant experience with at least 4 years experience specific to the test & evaluation of aerospace systems or subsystems
  • Have technical knowledge of key missile subject areas such as flight/ground testing, aerodynamic performance, flight dynamics, and propulsion
  • Have a strong computer background and programming skills, including MATLAB
  • Are able to work and effectively interact with colleagues and multi-disciplinary teams both internally and externally of different experience levels and backgrounds including industry and military personnel
  • Have strong communication skills; both verbal and written are required
  • Are comfortable working in closed area facilities
  • Have initiative, interest in skill development and the flexibility to accept assignments of varied scope and skill
  • Are able to travel for meetings and field tests (approx. 25-30 days per year)
  • Are able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a Top Secret level security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. You 'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...
  • Have a M.S. in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Electrical engineering with 8 years of experience specific to the test & evaluation or modeling & simulation of missile and/or reentry systems or subsystems, including MATLAB
  • Have a strong background in missile body functional, aerodynamic, and interface performance requirements
  • Have design experience for related missile and reentry body subsystems
  • Have had previous experience with Navy / Air Force strategic missile and/or reentry systems, including Trident, Minuteman, or Sentinel
  • Have an active Top Secret clearance

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. APL provides eligible staff with a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, education assistance, and training and development.
