JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for directing and optimizing daily pharmacy operations across assigned settings. Ensures the delivery of safe, efficient, high‑quality, and compliant pharmacy services by providing operational oversight, staff leadership, and continuous performance improvement. Collaborates closely with interdisciplinary and pharmacy leaders, clinical teams, and operational partners to implement policies and procedures, advance departmental initiatives, steward resources, and align pharmacy operations with organizational goals and regulatory requirements.

JOB FUNCTIONS

Essential Functions

Directs the planning, coordination, and execution of daily pharmacy operations across assigned practice areas to ensure safe, efficient, and patient-centered services.

Contributes to long-range planning for pharmacy services, supporting innovation, service expansion, and advancement of practice.

Develops, implements, and maintains operational policies, procedures, and standard work practices in alignment with departmental and organizational standards.

Determines staffing needs to provide safe and efficient patient care services and oversees scheduling and workload distribution.

Provides leadership for professional and technical staff, including training, competency assessment, coaching, mentoring, and performance management.

Serves as a liaison to internal departments and external partners, representing pharmacy operations in committees, workgroups, and collaborative initiatives.

Assists in developing the annual operating budget; monitors expenditures, productivity, and financial indicators; and implements strategies to control costs and improve operational efficiency.

Collaborates with purchasing teams to establish product standards, ensure compliance with purchasing agreements, and maintain effective communication regarding medication availability and utilization.

Participates in quality and safety committees; ensures compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and organizational standards; and implements system process improvements based on safety reports and assessments.

Contributes to the development, implementation, and maintenance of emergency preparedness and continuity-of-operations plans for pharmacy services.

Provides oversight of inventory management processes, including controlled substance accountability, diversion prevention practices, and audit readiness.

Directs the planning, coordination, and execution of daily pharmacy operations across assigned practice areas to ensure safe, efficient, and patient-centered services.

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited College of Pharmacy resulting in B.S. or Pharm D. degree required. Master's Degree in business, public health, or other related field preferred

Completion of a post-graduate year 1 (PGY1) ASHP accredited residency program or equivalent experience (3 years general practice) required

Completion of a post-graduate year 2 (PGY2) ASHP accredited residency program or equivalent experience (3 years specialized practice) required

Completion of an ASHP accredited Post-Graduate Year 1 (PGY1) Pharmacy Residency is equivalent to 3 years of practice experience; completion of an ASHP accredited Post-Graduate Year 2 (PGY2) Pharmacy Residency is equivalent to 3 years of practice experience (PGY1 and PGY2 combined equivalent to 6 years of experience)

7 years of experience in pharmacy practice required

2 years of experience in pharmacy management/leadership required

Pharmacist licensure in applicable state

Consultant Pharmacist license within 90 days of hire (Florida only)

Authority to direct and support employees’ daily work activities; has the direct responsibility to undertake the following employment actions: hiring, termination, corrective action and performance reviews.

Work seamlessly within diverse teams, bringing together professionals from various disciplines to provide patient-centered care and achieve collective goals.

Identifies control objectives for designated function and implement cost effective controls designed to meet those objectives.

Makes some independent decisions related to products, services, implementing new programs, and supporting technical/operational processes of a Network or business unit.

Addresses problems that are varied, complex and often non-recurring, requiring staff input and innovative, creative, and diagnostic techniques to resolve issues.

Applies advanced understanding of discipline/specialization, prior supervisory experience, and advanced interpersonal and communication skills in Pharmacy.

Drives improvement in existing business processes and assist in the identification and implementation of new processes.

Provides input for financial plans/budgets, people resources, and strategy related matters.

Advanced proficiency and experience using Microsoft Office Package (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook).
