Do you want to develop expertise across many Environmental Safety and Health discipline areas?

If you are pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Sciences/Engineering or other closely related degree and want to work in an exciting and collaborative environment, we want you to join our team.

We are seeking an intern in the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) group who will work with multiple EHS professional on a variety of technical projects across the Lab.

As a member of our team, you will

  • perform qualitative and quantitative exposure monitoring, particularly in chemical use areas,
  • conduct regular inspections of facilities throughout the Lab,
  • develop auditing protocols that combine biological, chemical, radiological, and safety assessments,
  • conduct machine guarding and hazardous energy assessments,
  • evaluate and update training materials and written safety programs, and
  • provide EHS support to internal research programs through other projects as assigned.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualification if you:

  • Are pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Health and Safety, Environmental Sciences/Engineering, or a closely related field,
  • Have a solid understanding of safety, health, and environmental regulations and best practices,
  • Have outstanding problem-solving, analytical, and interpersonal skills, and excellent writing/verbal communication and presentation skills,
  • To access APL’s facilities and networks, US Citizenship or permanent resident status is required, subject to applicable laws.

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL’s good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. APL provides eligible staff with a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, education assistance, and training and development. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

$47.95 Hourly
