Job Summary
We are seeking a reliable and safety-conscious Garbage and Recycling Truck Driver to join our team. You will safely operate heavy-duty collection trucks to service residential or commercial routes. Your efforts directly keep our community clean, healthy, and environmentally sustainable.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate vehicles safely by maneuvering heavy trucks through tight residential streets, alleys, and high-traffic commercial zones.
- Execute daily routes efficiently according to established schedules, maps, and dispatch instructions.
- Collect waste materials by operating automated, semi-automated, or manual lifting and packing mechanisms.
- Perform vehicle inspections including daily pre-trip and post-trip safety checks to monitor fluid levels, brakes, and tire pressure.
- Report maintenance needs or mechanical issues immediately to the fleet mechanic or supervisor.
- Provide customer service by interacting courteously with residents and business owners to address quick inquiries.
- Maintain digital logs of completed routes, weight sheets, and any safety or disposal incidents.
- Transport full loads to designated municipal solid waste landfills, transfer stations, or material recycling facilities (MRFs).
Qualifications & Requirements
- License: Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A or B is strictly required.
- Endorsements: Air Brakes endorsement is required; Tanker endorsement is a plus.
- Experience: Previous experience operating heavy-duty trucks (e.g., dump trucks, cement mixers, roll-offs, or commercial buses) is a plus!
- Driving Record: Clean Department of Transportation (DOT) record with no major recent violations.
- Medical: Ability to pass a DOT physical exam and ongoing mandatory drug/alcohol screenings.
- Language: Sufficiency in English to read route maps, street signs, and accurately log safety reports.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
- All-weather stamina: Ability to work outdoors under extreme weather conditions, including heavy rain, snow, heat, and cold.
- Physical mobility: Frequent boarding and exiting of the truck cab, lifting up to [50/100] pounds, and extensive pushing, pulling, or bending.
- Sensory tolerance: Comfortable working around heavy traffic, loud mechanical noises, moving parts, and strong waste odors.
- Safety gear: Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times, including high-visibility vests, steel-toed boots, and safety glasses.
