Johnny Was is a high-growth apparel brand, which designs, markets, and sells boho-chic, vintage-inspired women's apparel and accessories in the U.S. and internationally through ecommerce, retail, and wholesale channels. For over 30 years, the Johnny Was brand has been known for uniquely beautiful and high-quality garments distinguished by colorful patterns, intricate embroidery, and great design.

Johnny Was is a privately held business with an ownership group comprised of the original founders, management, and Endeavour Capital, a private investment firm with a nearly 30-year history of long-term value creation and stewardship.

Since its inception in 1987, Los Angeles based, Johnny Was has been embraced by free spirited and confident women, who are drawn to the brands unique signature aesthetic: a juxtaposition between vintage and modern. Embracing the quintessential California bohemian lifestyle, Johnny Was appeals to the modern gypsy. We are looking for talented, hardworking and enthusiastic individuals to contribute to the JW retail experience.

We are currently looking for a Store Manager for our Johnny Was store at Carlsbad. The Store Manager is a key partner in growing the Johnny Was brand. The Store Manager is responsible for driving the team to achieve store sales goals, overseeing and reporting all operations within the store and contributing to the achievement of the team’s individual goals while providing a superior shopping experience for all customers.


  • Ability to meet and exceed store sales plan.
  • Coach, develop and motivate the sales team on a daily, weekly and monthly basis to meet goals and utilizing Company tools
  • Lead the sales team by example through sales efforts and customer service on the sales floor to increase profitability. Takes ownership and commitment for delivering results; actively aware of personal and store metrics and achieves goals
  • Manages sales strategies, initiatives and growth
  • Demonstrates confidence when leading the team and managing the store. Takes initiative; has a high level of ownership and accountability for results of self and others on the team.
  • Understands changes in local market with potential impact on business performance and supports the execution of local sales strategies and tactics
  • Acts as a brand ambassador in the local market/mall to drive brand loyalty and business (i.e. charity events, local associations, mall initiatives).
  • Fosters an environment of teamwork and collaboration as well as enthusiasm and positivity.
  • Evaluates performance of all team members and provides consistent and timely feedback; creates and modifies action plans for the continuous development of staff
  • Resolves performance problems using appropriate communication, coaching and counseling techniques
  • Implement and maintain all company standards and practices
  • Complete operational tasks in a timely manner
  • Manages daily operational tasks according to Johnny Was standards including selling and service expectations, operations, payroll and human resources
  • Demonstrates strong business acumen; strategically forecasts, plans and budgets to the needs of the business (i.e. payrolls, staffing, etc.)
  • Maintains interior and exterior upkeep of the building with partnership from the corporate office
  • Understands and uses all retail systems and reporting tools


Requirements

Experience

  • 3 years retail management experience, preferably in women’s contemporary fashion
  • Outgoing, positive and energetic personality
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written
  • Computer skills to include operation of iPad based point of sales system and email
  • Strong leadership qualities and ability to train, teach and motivate the sales team in all store operations, sales, and customer service according to company standards
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the business, including nights, weekends, busy seasons, and high retail traffic and sales days (including but not limited to the day after Thanksgiving, Memorial Day, Christmas Eve, Mother's Day, etc.).
