JOB DESCRIPTION
John Wood Community College (JWCC) is seeking an innovative and experienced Program Director of Surgical Technology to lead our high-quality, student-centered surgical technology program. The Program Director will be responsible for the administration, organization, and supervision of the Associate degree in Surgical Technology. This position plays a key leadership role in ensuring compliance with accreditation standards, maintaining program excellence, and supporting student success.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide academic leadership at the program level to ensure continuous quality review and improvement of the program, and student success.
- Ensure compliance with CAA-HEP, the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs, and other regulatory agencies.
- Academic oversight, including curriculum planning and development.
- Conducting and writing program reviews and accreditation reports for the surg tech program.
- Support and coordinate professional development opportunities for surg tech faculty and staff in consultation with the Dean.
- Develop and maintain clinical partnerships with healthcare providers to ensure quality clinical experiences.
- Coordinate assessment efforts in collaboration with faculty and administration.
- Prepare and recommend the program budget with faculty input and manage allocated resources in collaboration with the Dean.
- Teaches in the surg tech program up to 15 credit hours per semester.
- Collaborate with college leadership to support enrollment, retention, and graduation goals.
- Represent JWCC's surg tech program in community, regional, and state-level meetings and initiatives.
- The Program Director provides program-level coordination and ensures compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards. The position does not carry supervisory or evaluative authority over other faculty members; evaluation and personnel decisions remain the responsibility of the Dean and administration.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
- Associate degree with a concentration in surgical technology from an institution accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCCA) required.
- Bachelor's degree recommended.
- Possess a credential in the field of surgical technology through the NCCA.
- Minimum total of five years, either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both, within the past ten years.
- Strong understanding of nursing accreditation and regulatory requirements.
- Curriculum development, demonstrated knowledge and experience in the assessment of student learning, scheduling, and budgeting preferred.

Work Schedule:
- A typical work schedule for a full-time faculty member at John Wood Community College includes a combination of teaching, office hours, and service to the college. While specific schedules may vary by department and course load.
- The position may require additional duties outside normal work hours and contracted workdays including travel to and from educational and healthcare facilities.
- The Program Director of Surgical Technology position operates in a professional office and academic environment within JWCC's Health Sciences division. This role involves a combination of office duties and visits to clinical partner sites. The position requires the ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings or weekends, to accommodate program needs, faculty schedules, or community events.
SALARY:
- This is an exempt position with an estimated base salary range of $31,921.00 - $99,844.00. Salary is determined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and is commensurate with education and experience.

In certain cases, faculty may be eligible for stipends to compensate for extra work that aligns with institutional priorities and needs.
