This is a full-time, 12-month, faculty position that reports to the Dean of Business, Allied Health, and Public Services and is located at the JWCC campus in Quincy, Illinois. Position begins Fall semester, August 2026.

Job Description

John Wood Community College (JWCC) is seeking an innovative and experienced Program Director of Surgical Technology to lead our high-quality, student-centered surgical technology program. The Program Director is responsible for the administration, organization, and oversight of the Associate degree in Surgical Technology. This position plays a key leadership role in ensuring compliance with accreditation standards, maintaining program excellence, and supporting student success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide academic leadership at the program level to ensure continuous quality improvement and student success.
  • Ensure compliance with CAAHEP (Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs) and other regulatory agencies.
  • Provide academic oversight, including curriculum planning and development.
  • Conduct and prepare program reviews and accreditation reports for the surgical technology program.
  • Support and coordinate professional development opportunities for surgical technology faculty and staff in consultation with the Dean.
  • Develop and maintain clinical partnerships with healthcare providers to ensure high-quality clinical experiences.
  • Coordinate assessment efforts in collaboration with faculty and administration.
  • Prepare and recommend the program budget with faculty input and manage allocated resources in collaboration with the Dean.
  • Teach in the surgical technology program up to 15 credit hours per semester.
  • Collaborate with college leadership to support enrollment, retention, and graduation goals.
  • Represent JWCC's surgical technology program in community, regional, and state-level meetings and initiatives.
  • Provide program-level coordination and ensure compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards. The position does not carry supervisory or evaluative authority over other faculty members; evaluation and personnel decisions remain the responsibility of the Dean and administration.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Associate degree with a concentration in surgical technology from an institution accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCCA) required.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Possess a credential in the field of surgical technology through the NCCA.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the operating room scrub role, as an instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both within the past ten (10) years.
  • Strong understanding of accreditation and regulatory requirements.
  • Curriculum development experience, including demonstrated knowledge of student learning assessment, scheduling, and budgeting preferred.

Work Schedule

  • A typical work schedule for a full-time faculty member at John Wood Community College includes a combination of teaching, office hours, and service to the college. While specific schedules may vary by department and course load.
  • The position may require additional duties outside normal work hours and contracted workdays including travel to and from educational and healthcare facilities.

Working Conditions

  • The Program Director of Surgical Technology position operates in a professional office and academic environment within JWCC's Health Sciences division. This role involves a combination of office duties and visits to clinical partner sites. The position requires the ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings or weekends, to accommodate program needs, faculty schedules, or community events.
  • Pursue ongoing formal training designed to maintain and upgrade professional, instructional, and administrative competencies.
  • Participate in ARC/STSA sponsored accreditation workshops.
  • Primarily sedentary work performed in an office or classroom setting with frequent use of computers and standard office equipment.
  • Occasional walking, standing, and travel between campus buildings and clinical sites.
  • Regular interaction with students, faculty, staff, healthcare partners, and community stakeholders.
  • Requires the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic and evolving educational environment.
  • May involve lifting of materials or equipment up to 25 pounds.

Salary

  • This is an exempt position with an estimated base salary range of $31,921.00 - $99,844.00. Salary is determined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and is commensurate with education and experience.
