Description
The OSP Designer will be responsible for planning, designing, documenting, and permitting proposed new outside plant FTTx build-outs. This role will work as a member of our Fiber Design & Implementation Engineering team to produce high-quality deliverables for buried, underground, and aerial fiber applications. This is not a remote position and will require you to work in our Jena, Louisiana office.
Responsibilities & Duties
An OSP Designer will be responsible for the design, field notes, pricing, and drafting of copper and fiber facilities. This position’s essential functions will include, but are not limited to:
- Engineering routine and specific outside plant work orders using any combination of aerial, buried, or underground cable.
- Copper and fiber optic cable engineering.
- Performing field visits.
- Completing projects with short turnaround times.
Qualifications
Education:
- A high school diploma or GED is required.
Experience:
- Must have at least two (2) years of experience in OSP telecom fiber route engineering.
- Must have copper and fiber optic cable experience using aerial, underground, and direct buried practices.
- NDS and AutoCAD experience is preferred.
- GComms experience is a plus.
- Experience assisting in ROW acquisition is a plus.
Skills:
- Must possess advanced knowledge of outside plant design for business-as-usual (BAU).
- Must be capable of taking detailed field notes.
- Must possess working knowledge of basic office software, such as Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Excel.
- A working understanding of the RUS (Rural Utility Standards) coding process and practices is preferred.
