St. John Paul II Academy in Corpus Christi, Texas, is seeking a responsible and safety-focused Bus Driver to operate school or charter buses specifically for field trips, athletic events, and special events. This position does not include regular daily student pick-up or drop-off routes. The driver will transport students and staff to and from designated event locations in a timely and secure manner.
Ministerial Character:
The Diocesan Bishop is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the particular Church (“the Diocese”) entrusted to him. In a unique and visible way, he makes Christ's mission present and enduring as the Shepherd of the Christian Community. In order to fulfill his mission, the Diocesan Bishop employs suitable, chosen collaborators, who are clerics, religious, and lay people. He shares with them the apostolic mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them.
Each position employed in the Diocese of Corpus Christi helps to extend the ministry of the Diocesan Bishop in particular ways as outlined in the job duties and responsibilities. Therefore, this position is closely connected to and assists the Diocesan Bishop in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the church.
Responsibilities:

- As an integral part of ministry for the Church, this position will support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic ministry and the mission of the Diocese of Corpus Christi in both professional and personal life
- Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
- Continuously grow in the ministry by participating in religious ceremonies, training sessions, and reflection activities as directed
- Safely operate a school or charter bus to transport passengers to and from field trips, sporting events, or special activities
- Follow assigned schedules and routes as provided by the event organizer or transportation coordinator
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and report any maintenance issues
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal traffic laws and school policies
- Maintain a safe and respectful environment on the bus at all times
- Accurately complete trip logs, mileage records, and incident reports when necessary
- Communicate effectively with school staff, coaches, chaperones, and event coordinators
- Assist passengers with boarding and exiting the bus when necessary
- Adhere to time schedules and remain punctual for all assignments
- Perform other duties as assigned
Mental/Physical Demands:
- Ability to carry, pull, push, lift, or move objects of 10 pounds or more
- Ability to maintain composure under duress; maintain emotional control under stress
- May be exposed to warm/cold temperatures, other weather-related elements
- Operates in a mobile vehicle environment
- May be required to wait for the duration of events (waiting time may be compensated or unpaid, per policy)

Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements (e.g., School Bus and Passenger)
- Must be at least 25 years of age per the diocesan insurance policy for transporting students
- Clean driving record
- Previous experience driving buses for schools, events, or charters is preferred
- Ability to pass a background check, drug screening, and DOT physical
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Availability for flexible, non-standard hours, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends
Additional Requirements:
- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with diocesan policies and procedures
- Must submit to employment-required screenings, including a criminal history background check, motor vehicle record check, and drug screening
- Certification in Safe Environment training provided by the Office of Safe Environment and Child & Family Resources
- Position requires adherence to Diocesan policies and procedures
Work Schedule:
- As-needed basis – work assignments are scheduled based on the school or organization’s field trip and event calendar
- May include early morning departures, evening returns, or weekend trips, depending on event timing
