Structural Steel Detailer

John Metcalfe Co. was founded in 1951 and is an industry leader in the steel drafting business, preparing technical bridge and structural drawings. John Metcalfe Company is certified by the National Institute of Steel Detailing through their Quality Procedures Program. We are seeking a qualified draftsman to join our team. The incumbent will be part of a highly professional team that provides Computer-Aided Drafting (CAD) detailing expertise on numerous structural and bridge steel design projects.

Job Description: Draftsman

· Work is assigned with general instructions and professional guidance from higher technical employees.

· Drafting assignments require a working knowledge of drafting standards, practices and techniques. The work follows prescribed methods and procedures and involves the application of technical and drafting skills.

· Perform drafting and detailing work associated with the development and preparation of final bridge and structural plans from preliminary sketches, existing highway plans, existing bridge plans, and from field survey data. This includes structures such as simple span bridges, continuous span bridges, bridge rehabilitation projects, miscellaneous steel and structural steel buildings.

· Utilize algebra, geometry, and trigonometry to perform mathematical calculations to compute plan quantities and perform structural drafting with professional and technical guidance.

· Compile data and perform dimensional and routine calculations required for the preparation of drawings.

· Develop field measurement sketches to acquire required field information for implementation of CAD drawings.

Minimum Experience Requirements:

• An associate degree in drafting, designing, civil, or any other appropriate field of engineering technology preferred
• Proficient in AutoCAD required
• Experience in structural steel or bridge detailing required
• Willingness to develop excellent attention to detailing of structural or bridge components
• Demonstrated ability to see a project through to completion and meet or exceed deliverable deadlines for own work
• Must be able to perform essential job functions
• Ability to use Microsoft Office applications (Word and Excel)
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Additional Employment Information:

· Full-time employment

· Work Hours: 8 hours per day Monday – Friday, flexible start time

· Work schedule can vary based on customer need

· May require overtime

· $18 - $28 per hour based on experience

· Health and vacation benefits available after 3-month temporary period

Pay: $18.00 - $28.00 per hour
