Job Summary
As Director of Nursing, you are delegated the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary for carrying out your assigned duties. Responsibilities include management of the overall operations of the Nursing Services Department in accordance with company policies, standards of nursing practices, and governmental regulations. Expertise is required in infection prevention and control, evidence based nursing practice, emergency preparedness, and the long term care industry. This position serves as a liaison between the Nursing Home Administrator and the nursing staff.

Core Competencies/Essential Functions And Responsibilities
- Work with the Administrator, consultants, physicians, and facility staff in planning all aspects of nursing services to include interface with other disciplines and departments.
- Actively participate in the development and achievement of nursing department goals and objectives including performance evaluations, budgets, and educational programming.
- Develop and monitor compliance with policies, procedures, and standards of practice consistent with organizational and external regulatory guidelines.
- Identify opportunities for QAPI projects through data available from various sources including HSAG, Nursing Home Compare, and CASPER and quality measure reports. Responsible to oversee committee performance, and report progress through QA committee.
- Recognize risk management concerns and maintain compliance with reporting per statutory guidelines.
- Oversee compliance with medical records maintenance and records requests.
- Monitor Associate relations practices to ensure systems that maintain high morale and staff retention to include effective communication, prompt problem resolution, positive supervisory practices, and maintaining a positive work environment.
- Ensure current and future staffing through development of recruiting sources and through appropriate selection orientation, training, and staff education in conjunction with the facility assessment.
- Attend and participate in department/facility meeting, as required. Assist surveyors and inspectors to facilitate regulatory compliance.
- Serve as a liaison between local nursing colleges for clinical and practicum opportunities
- Demonstrate a passion for caring as evidenced by interaction with co-workers, residents, families, and visitors assuring resident safety at all times.
- Provide direct resident care as staffing patterns demand. Assure effective interaction with resident and families.

- Usually works indoors but may have to work outside during outside events and parties.
- May have to get into awkward positions or work in cramped spaces.
- May be exposed to loud noises or sounds that are distracting.
- May be exposed to diseases or infections from contact with residents or other staff members.
- Often exposed to contaminants.
- May sometimes need to wear safety gear such as gloves and or masks.
- May have to handle hazardous waste in accordance with infection control procedures.
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Must possess a current, unencumbered, active license to practice as a Registered Nurse in this state. A Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing is preferred
- Must possess a current CPR certification.
- Must have a minimum of three (3) years of nursing experience in a setting serving the same age/type of resident population served by this facility. Minimum of one (1) year of management experience preferred.
- Must possess knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations pertaining to facility function.
- Must possess knowledge of accreditation standards and compliance requirement.
- Must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Works beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary.
- Is subject to callback during emergency conditions (e.g., severe weather, evacuation, post-disaster, etc.).
- Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc.
- Maintains a liaison with the residents, their families, support personnel, etc., to ensure that the residents’ needs are continually met

- For the safety and security of our residents and employees must be able to read, write, and verbally communicate in English, which is the most universally used language of our residents and employee population.
- Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 30 pounds, and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
- Requires standing or sitting for long periods of time and frequent walking.
- Must be capable of maintaining regular attendance
- Must meet all local health regulations and post offer physical exam.
- Must maintain a professional, respectful, friendly demeanor with all residents, family members, guests, and staff at all times.
