What are the responsibilities and job description for the Runkle School Guidance Counselor K-4 position at John D. Runkle School?
The Guidance Counselor will work to advance a shared understanding of the diverse, ever-changing and complex social and emotional needs of the school community. The Guidance Counselor will participate in and facilitate groups, meetings and serve as a liaison for families/caregivers, community stakeholders, teachers and other staff in order to best meet the needs of the student body.
The Counselor will work primarily with students in grades K-4 and will also work in conjunction with the Guidance Counselors for grades 4-8, the Social Worker, and the School Psychologist.

- Consults with staff about student needs
- Counsels with parents to build partnerships that support school work, behavior, attendance, and student investment
- Serves as liaison between the school and outside agencies and clinicians, as needed to support students
- Acts as a link between home, school, and staff to address issues affecting students and help students maximize their learning
potential and cope with these issues -
Schedule and conduct Kindergarten screenings
- Helps families better understand the school programs
- Helps families make appropriate social agency contacts as needed
- Assists individual students directly with adjustment to school
- Participates with other members of the Child Study Team in case conferences and regular staff meetings
- Provides individual, group, and crisis counseling to students as needed

Adept in character-based lesson planning and delivery (whole class, push-in)
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the principal or district administration
Required Qualifications
- Mass DESE Guidance Counselor or School Social Worker/Adjustment Counselor certification
