John Adams HS in Queens is seeking a dedicated and skilled Literacy Intervention Teacher to support high school students in developing foundational reading skills. This position focuses on implementing the Corrective Reading curriculum to improve phonics, decoding, fluency, and comprehension skills, with the goal of bringing students up to grade-level proficiency.
Key Responsibilities:- Deliver targeted instruction using the Corrective Reading program (Decoding A–C and/or Comprehension A–C).
- Assess students' reading levels and monitor progress using diagnostic and formative assessments.
- Differentiate instruction based on individual student needs.
- Create a supportive and engaging learning environment focused on literacy growth.
- Collaborate with ELA teachers, instructional coaches, and support staff to align interventions with core instruction.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and communicate regularly with families and staff.
- Valid NY Literacy Certification grades 6-12/K-12.
- Experience with reading intervention, particularly in secondary settings.
- Familiarity with Corrective Reading or similar structured literacy programs.
