Staff Position & Description

Position: Assistant Kitchen Supervisor

Employee Classification: Non-Exempt

Department: Men’s Shelter

Reports To: Director of Guest Services and Shelter Kitchen Supervisor

Job Statement: Perform kitchen duties, tasks, and details as needed in the Shelter kitchen.

Duties:

· Prepare and assist in the preparation and cooking meals for the shelter

· Assist and maintain cleanliness in the kitchen work area, dining room, food preparation area, refrigeration, walk-in freezer, and pantry according to Health Department and USDA guidelines

· Secure uses of food on hand and donations before expiration to prevent waste

· Prepare, supervise, and serve meals for special functions at the shelter

· Follow food safety guidelines, such as good personal hygiene, food handling practices, and proper sanitizing methods

· Assist in maintaining kitchen security, such as food storage areas and equipment

· Familiarize oneself with the Mission’s kitchen equipment for maintenance purposes, proper storage, and for safe usage.

· Dedication to de-escalation, and a willingness to continue training in the practice of de-escalation

· Commitment to unity

· Facilitate a healthy spiritual environment for shelter guests, volunteers, and fellow staff

· Attend Mission meetings and functions.

· Perform any other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Prior culinary and food services experience, food service instructional experience preferred
• Possess a current Food Handlers Card
• Knowledge in food industry procedures and sanitation codes
• Ability to cook in large quantities
• Experience with homelessness, mental health issues, and recovery preferred
• Ability to lift heavy objects and operate kitchen/storage equipment
• Flexible work schedule and possess the ability to work independently
• Manage tasks and meet time schedules

Pay: From $17.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 per week
