Position Overview

The Communications and Special Projects Manager is a dynamic and strategic role responsible for amplifying the voice and mission of John 23 Educational Center. This individual will oversee the organization’s internal and external communications, manage digital presence, coordinate special initiatives including fundraising campaigns and community events, and support grant writing and donor engagement.

This position is ideal for a creative, organized, and mission-driven professional with a passion for storytelling, community outreach, and project management.

Key ResponsibilitiesCommunications & Social Media

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive communications strategy aligned with organizational goals.
  • Manage all social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.), including content creation, scheduling, and engagement.
  • Create newsletters, write blogs, press releases, donor communications, and program updates.
  • Maintain and update the organization's website and digital assets.
  • Attend vendor events for volunteer recruitment.

Campaigns & Fundraising

  • Coordinate and implement fundraising and awareness campaigns (both digital and in-person).
  • Design and execute Giving Tuesday, annual appeals, and other key initiatives.
  • Collaborate with leadership to develop marketing materials and campaign messaging.

Events Management

  • Plan and execute community events, workshops, and fundraising activities.
  • Manage event logistics including venue, registration, promotion, and volunteer coordination.
  • Serve as a key liaison with community partners, vendors, and stakeholders.

Grants & Development

  • Research and identify grant opportunities aligned with organizational needs.
  • Assist with grant writing, reporting, and tracking deadlines.
  • Support donor engagement strategies and stewardship communications.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Nonprofit Management, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 2 years of experience in nonprofit communications, event planning, or project management.
  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
  • Proficiency in social media platforms and digital marketing tools (Canva, Mailchimp, Meta Business Suite, etc.).
  • Familiarity with website content management systems (e.g., WordPress or Wix).
  • Experience with grant writing or fundraising is highly desirable.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of John 23 Educational Center.

Work Schedule

  • This is a 30 hours a week position, with flexibility based on organizational needs and candidate availability.
