Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough eye examinations utilizing advanced diagnostic tools and techniques to assess visual acuity, ocular health, and overall eye function.
- Diagnose and manage common eye conditions such as glaucoma, cataracts, and refractive errors, utilizing your knowledge of optometry principles.
- Prescribe corrective lenses, medications, or refer patients to specialists when necessary, ensuring optimal patient outcomes.
- Maintain accurate and detailed medical records using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) or Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Educate patients on eye health, preventive care, and proper use of prescribed eyewear or medications.
- Perform vital signs assessments.
- Collaborate with optical staff on sales of eyewear products while providing excellent customer service that enhances patient satisfaction.
- Stay current with medical terminology, anatomy knowledge, physiology updates, and advancements in optometry practices to deliver top-tier care.
Qualifications
- Valid licensure as an Optometrist with appropriate state certification or licensing requirements fulfilled.
- Proven experience in ophthalmology or optometry practice, including familiarity with optical equipment and patient care procedures.
- Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology related to the eye, and common ocular conditions.
- Experience working with EMR/EHR systems for accurate documentation of patient visits and medical records.
- Excellent communication skills combined with a customer service-oriented approach to foster trust and rapport with patients.
- Ability to perform medical coding accurately for billing purposes related to optometry services.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure confidentiality and security of patient information.
