Technical Trainer

Joby Aviation
San Carlos, CA Full Time
POSTED ON 5/22/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 5/22/2027

Company Overview

Imagine a piloted air taxi that takes off vertically, then quietly carries you and your fellow passengers over the congested city streets below, enabling you to spend more time with the people and places that matter most. At Joby, we've been working to make that dream a reality since 2009 and we're now in the final stages of certifying our aircraft with the FAA. With plans to launch our aircraft in the US and Dubai, we're now scaling manufacturing and preparing for the launch of our commercial service.

Overview

Are you ready to shape the future of aviation, to champion and elevate our aircraft manufacturing training programs? In this role, you will standardize and document critical training activities, ensuring our production teams possess the expertise required to build the next generation of air transportation. You will be responsible for preparing technicians for On-the-Job Training (OJT) through hands-on instruction, area-specific skill development, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver new-hire onboarding training (e.g., core knowledge training, application/systems training, facility and safety orientation, etc.).

  • Deliver fundamental skills training (e.g., safety cable, torque driver, O-ring installation, IPC620 and IPC610 solder training, etc.).

  • Deliver continuous improvement applied training (e.g., 5S, standard work, built-in-quality, etc.). (Note: "4S S" is usually "5S" in manufacturing, but I kept your terminology if it's company-specific.)

  • Coordinate with external vendors to support technical training needs.

  • Ensure that technical training content, processes, and procedures are in compliance with published training standards.

  • Manage and maintain technical training records.

  • Support the development of technical training curricula based on existing work instructions, SOPs, and training content.

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including subject matter experts, engineers, and production leaders, to incorporate practical, hands-on experiences into technical training programs.

  • Coordinate and manage costs and equipment for technician and quality inspector training.

  • Continuously assess the effectiveness of training programs and make recommendations to address evolving industry requirements and feedback from trainees.

Required

  • 2 years of professional technical training experience.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

  • Proficiency in powertrain and electronics processes with the ability to define technical scopes, sequences, and critical tool requirements for complex tasks.

  • Ability to conduct practical "tabletop" walk-throughs and field validations to ensure technical accuracy and safety in real-world applications.

  • Strong delivery skills for leading in-person drills, technical simulations, and frontline coaching to ensure learner proficiency and task accuracy.

  • Strong instructional and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts clearly and in an engaging manner.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to mentor and guide individuals from diverse backgrounds and skill levels.

  • Effective communication and organizational skills to manage training schedules, materials, records, and documentation.

  • Experience managing successful projects from inception to completion.

Desired

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Materials Science, Training, Instructional Design, or a related field.

  • Demonstrated experience in technical writing, specifically drafting step-by-step procedural documentation.

  • Experience capturing and developing visual training aids, such as instructional photography and video, to supplement technical documentation.

  • Experience designing, implementing, enhancing, and delivering training programs in a manufacturing, production, or similar environment.

  • Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS) and/or other training software.

  • Experience designing standardized training systems.

  • Experience in aerospace, composites, or electronics manufacturing.
