About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced and innovative Medical Design Director to lead and oversee all aspects of our deployable medical operations. This role will be based in Coconut Creek, Florida, with regular travel to deployment sites across the country to provide oversight, technical support, and operational leadership.
The Medical Design Director will play a critical role in the continued growth and success of our deployable healthcare solutions, ensuring systems meet the evolving demands of disaster response, emergency preparedness, military operations, and healthcare delivery.
Position Summary
The Medical Design Director is responsible for the design, implementation, optimization, and oversight of deployable healthcare systems, including medical gas delivery, oxygen systems, negative pressure environments, and supporting infrastructure. This individual will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop safe, reliable, and compliant medical facilities while ensuring operational excellence in both domestic and international deployments.
The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise with hands-on problem-solving abilities and is comfortable troubleshooting systems in the field. Military experience is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of deployable healthcare facilities and medical oxygen delivery systems.
- Analyze, test, and validate systems to ensure safety, reliability, and compliance with applicable regulations and industry standards.
- Oversee deployment, setup, and operation of field hospitals, including isolation and negative pressure environments.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues involving medical gas systems, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, low-voltage, and IT infrastructure, both remotely and on-site.
- Collaborate with architects, contractors, healthcare professionals, and government agencies to integrate deployable medical systems into various healthcare environments.
- Develop engineering drawings, schematics, specifications, operating manuals, and maintenance documentation.
- Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies to ensure patient and staff safety.
- Research client-specific requirements and recommend equipment solutions and design modifications.
- Train and educate physicians, nurses, maintenance personnel, military personnel, and local operators on system operation and maintenance.
- Monitor industry trends, technological advancements, and regulatory changes affecting deployable healthcare systems.
- Support projects for military, federal, state, local, private-sector, and international clients.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Healthcare, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Proven experience designing medical gas, oxygen delivery, or healthcare support systems.
- Strong understanding of NFPA 99, FGI Guidelines, OSHA regulations, and other applicable healthcare standards.
- Proficiency with CAD software and technical drawing development.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across diverse teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Military or disaster response experience.
- Knowledge of oxygen systems, negative pressure environments, HVAC systems, and healthcare facility infrastructure.
- Experience with healthcare construction, commissioning, and deployment projects.
- Familiarity with FEMA Incident Command System (ICS) and National Incident Management System (NIMS).
- Ability to read and interpret architectural plans, engineering drawings, and electrical schematics.
