IO Datasphere, Inc. has been providing project management, software development and IT staff augmentation services to our clients in the Midwest and throughout the U.S. since 1996. We are an approved vendor on contract to provide software development and IT staff augmentation services for the States of Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, Iowa, and Wisconsin. We also provide these services to businesses, as well as local and county governments, in the Midwest and nationwide.

Our client is looking for a UI/UX Designer. This position is responsible for designing, helping to develop, and maintaining the UI/UX for the rebuilding of client s system on .NET Core framework.

Under the supervision of the IT Project Manager and IT Director, this position functions as part of the Information Technology team and is a resource for developers and elections specialists. This position will develop a high-level working knowledge of laws, administrative rules and business processes to effectively interpret and apply these requirements to elections technology used throughout the state.

Tasks

  • This position is responsible for creating intuitive, efficient, and accessible designs that meet WCAG 2.1 AA standards and align usability and security requirements, while maintaining the overall structure and integrity familiar to system users.
  • This position works collaboratively with developers and elections specialists to translate functional needs into user-friendly designs, conduct accessibility testing, and ensure the rebuilt application provides a consistent, responsive experience across devices and assistive technologies.
  • This position requires compliance with the agency s timekeeping system to ensure that tasks performed qualify under federal funding guidelines or that work representing State initiatives is tracked contemporaneously and is properly accounted for using State funds.
  • Serve as a member of the agency's information technology team and ensure all UI/UX of the WisVote system meets all requirements and works effectively.
  • Develop and maintain a high-level working knowledge of all elections laws governing responsibilities of state and local election officials and voters, as it relates to information technology systems.
  • With guidance from developers, the project manager, and the IT Director, gather information from subject matter experts to design the UI/UX of the software as it functions for our WisVote application.
  • Design and help develop enterprise level applications and custom integration solutions including major enhancements and interface, functions, and features.
  • Act as an internal consultant, advocate, mentor, and change agent within the organization as it relates to the UI/UX of the WisVote application.
  • Create low-fidelity wireframes and high-fidelity prototypes to visualize and test design concepts.
  • Conduct user research, gather qualitative and quantitative data, and analyze it to inform design decisions.
  • Create user personas, user flows, and journey maps to understand user needs and behaviors.
  • Use front-end web technologies like HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript/jQuery, and potentially modern JavaScript frameworks (e.g., Angular, React, Vue.js).
  • Design applications that are accessible to users with disabilities, adhering to relevant accessibility guidelines as laid out in the WCAG 2.0 guidelines.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Excellent communication skills to articulate design choices, present ideas, and to collaborate and work effectively with cross-functional teams to bridge the gap between business and technical sides of the application.
  • Write clear and concise user-friendly text for interfaces and provide design recommendations based on long-term IT organization strategy.
  • Ability to use Telerik UI.

NOTE: Candidates must be CURRENT WI residents. No relocation is allowed. This position will work mostly remote (from within the state of WI). However, the selected hire should plan to come onsite a few times each month on average, as project needs dictate.

Skills Required:

  • 3 years - Experience creating low-fidelity wireframes and high-fidelity prototypes to visualize and test design concepts
  • 3 years - Skills in writing clear and concise user-friendly text for interfaces
  • 3 years - Experience in conducting user research, gathering qualitative and quantitative data, and analyzing it to inform design decisions along with creating user personas, user flows, and journey maps to understand user needs and behaviors

Skills Desired A plus to have:

  • Experience in designing with WCAG accessibility guidelines in mind
  • Ability to clearly articulate design choices, present ideas, and work effectively with various teams (developers, clients, stakeholders)
  • Familiarity with ASP.NET Core frameworks (including Razor), third-party UI component libraries such as Telerik UI, and front-end web technologies like HTML5, CSS, and JavaScript, and potentially modern JavaScript frameworks (e.g., Angular and React)
  • Rate depends on experience
