We are seeking a Substation Design Engineer with 3 4 years of experience in substation design or substation project engineering. This role supports utility and energy infrastructure projects, involving both office-based design work and field support. The ideal candidate will be familiar with industry standards, utility design practices, and possess a strong foundation in electrical engineering.
Responsibilities:
Hybrid Minimum 2 days/week in Fresno office, 3 days remote. This may shift to full-time in-office based on project needs.
We are seeking a Substation Design Engineer with 3 4 years of experience in substation design or substation project engineering. This role supports utility and energy infrastructure projects, involving both office-based design work and field support. The ideal candidate will be familiar with industry standards, utility design practices, and possess a strong foundation in electrical engineering.
Responsibilities:
- Perform detailed engineering design for electric substations (new and retrofit), including one-line diagrams, protection and control schematics, and physical layout drawings
- Support project development and execution from concept through construction
- Coordinate with internal teams, clients, vendors, and contractors
- Conduct site visits (20 30% travel) for field assessments and construction support
- Review and apply relevant codes and standards (e.g., IEEE, NESC, NEC)
- Prepare and review engineering reports, drawings, and specifications
- Support permitting and procurement processes as needed
- Bachelor s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE)
- 3 4 years of experience in substation design or substation project engineering
- Proficiency with engineering software and CAD tools (AutoCAD, MicroStation, etc.)
- Knowledge of protection and control systems, grounding, and physical design
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- EIT (Engineer-in-Training) certification
- PE (Professional Engineer) license California or ability to obtain
- Experience working with utility clients and regulatory authorities
