Role: Reliability Engineer

Background:
This role supports the hardware development group by executing reliability testing and failure analysis on new Apple and supplier technologies. The Engineering Specialist (ES) will provide technical expertise in designing and conducting reliability assessments to evaluate and improve hardware robustness.
Scope of Work
The Engineering Specialist will:
Lead and execute mechanical and environmental reliability tests (e.g., shock, drop,
vibration, thermal cycling).
Prepare detailed test plans and reports.
Conduct statistical data analysis for reliability risk assessments.
Perform failure analysis to determine root cause using methods such as X-ray, SEM/
EDS, FTIR, and microscopy.
Develop new test procedures and specifications to assess technology robustness.
Provide design recommendations to improve reliability.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (RE, PD, SQE, etc.) to communicate test results
and findings.
Conduct research on technologies to predict failure modes.
Prioritize and complete tasks with minimal supervision.
Adhere to Apple s documentation, test, and safety standards.
Deliverables:
Test Plans for assigned technologies or modules.
Reliability Test Reports with conclusions and data summaries.
Failure Analysis reports identifying root causes and corrective actions.
Weekly progress updates to Apple RE DRI and technical leads.
Contribute to Lessons Learned documentation for sustained improvements
Skills & Qualifications:
BS or MS in Mechanical, Electrical, Materials Science or other Engineering discipline.
3 years in a reliability, test, or quality engineering role.
Experience With JEDEC, ASTM, And Other Industry Standards.
Hands-on experience with reliability testing and DOE/FMEA tools.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency in statistical analysis.
Effective communicator (written & verbal) and team player.
Ability to work independently with minimal oversight.
