This role supports the development of key materials and components for the Natrium reactor core, including sourcing and testing materials to support qualification of components and systems.
Responsibilities:
- Lead technical development of suppliers to increase technology readiness of key materials and components for the Natrium reactor core.
- Develop material and process specifications for specialized materials (e.g., HT9, Grade 92, nickel-base alloys, austenitic stainless steels) and product forms (billet, bar, rod, wire, heavy-walled tube, small-diameter tubing).
- Collaborate with suppliers on material and process specifications and provide input to design teams to ensure product performance meets design and manufacturing requirements.
- Support supplier selection processes including RFPs and team evaluations.
- Provide oversight of supplier projects, working with contract administrators and supplier engineers to ensure delivery of required data and deliverables.
- Coordinate technical review of supplier deliverables and ensure appropriate responses.
- Assist with supplier audits per ASME NQA-1-2015.
- Design and execute test programs to evaluate the effect of manufacturing variability on material properties and performance.
- Minimum of 6 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree, or 3 years with a Master's degree in Materials Science/Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Strong understanding of metallurgy, including fabrication and thermomechanical processing of ferrous (e.g., ferritic-martensitic steels) and nonferrous (e.g., nickel-base) alloys.
- Demonstrated experience developing requirements specifications, defining supplier work scope (SOWs, RFPs), and providing technical oversight of supplier projects.
- Knowledge of nuclear reactor design impacts on materials is a plus.
- Ability to work independently to solve challenging technical problems.
