Seeking a Senior Mainframe Engineer with strong expertise in IBM z/OS environments. This role focuses on system programming, infrastructure support, performance tuning, and enterprise mainframe operations. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience across system configuration, storage, security, and network components within a large-scale environment.
Job Title : Senior Mainframe Engineer z/OS Location : Remote / Bethesda, MD
Key Responsibilities:
Perform installation, configuration, maintenance, and support of z/OS systems and associated ISV products
Manage and support mainframe system environments, ensuring stability, performance, and availability
Configure and maintain z/OSMF and related system components
Support mainframe network configuration (TCP/IP, VTAM, etc.)
Monitor system performance and implement tuning improvements
Analyze system issues, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions
Develop and maintain technical documentation for system processes and configurations
Participate in on-call rotation and provide after-hours support as needed
Required Qualifications
7 years of z/OS systems programming experience
5 years supporting IBM and ISV products (Broadcom, BMC, Precisely, or similar)
3 years of mainframe network configuration and management
3 years of experience with z/OSMF customization and administration
Strong experience with REXX and/or Assembler programming
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with SYSPLEX, Coupling Facility, and related structures
Knowledge of CA-7 or similar batch scheduling tools
Experience with mainframe emulators such as Blue Zone
Storage management experience including SMS, ACS routines, DFHSM, and CA-1
Experience with enterprise storage solutions (e.g., virtual tape, DASD)
Familiarity with ACF2 security (administration, configuration, compliance)
Experience in disaster recovery planning and implementation
Additional Information
Candidates must be willing to participate in an on-call support rotation
