Job at a Glance
- Title: Senior Infrastructure Engineer — Data Center Facilities
- Location: Richmond Data Center, 6000 Technology Blvd, Sandston, VA 23150
- Contract: W2 only, 9-month contract with potential for extension or conversion to full time with either the client or CEI
- Pay: $50-53/hour optional medical, dental, vision, 401(k) match
This role involves supporting data center design, engineering, and operational maintenance for enterprise facilities, specifically related to the Orange Rocket initiative. The position requires onsite presence five days a week and offers an opportunity to transition to full-time employment.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate with vendors/suppliers (QTS, Digital Realty, Data Bank) on power, cabling, and connectivity; define and procure copper and fiber as required
- Collaborate with internal network and deployment teams on connectivity requirements and implementation plans
- Perform full cabinet deployments: racking, stacking, and cabling of servers and networking hardware
- Install, remove, maintain, and troubleshoot servers, structured cabling (copper and fiber), and networking equipment
- Test fiber and structured cabling and perform remediation as needed
- Remove decommissioned assets and perform cable cleanup to maintain standards and safety
- Maintain and update asset/inventory records in the asset management system (CMDB/DCIM)
- Proven experience in installation, removal, and maintenance of servers, cabling, and networking equipment in enterprise data center environments
- Strong experience with fiber optic technologies and structured cabling (testing, troubleshooting, remediation)
- Ability to logically diagnose faulty hardware components and layer 1 connectivity issues
- Knowledge of data center rack power, power distribution, and connectivity requirements
- Familiarity with day-to-day operational support of enterprise data centers (change windows, ticketing, maintenance)
- Strong communication and analytical skills; able to coordinate work across vendors and internal teams
- Ability to lift/move approximately 50 lbs
- Aptitude to learn and adapt quickly to new technologies and processes
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Experience using ticketing systems (Jira, ServiceNow)
- Familiarity with data center infrastructure management tools (DCIM) and CMDB processes
- Previous experience working for or with large colo vendors (QTS, Digital Realty, Data Bank)
