Job Overview:
The Maintenance & Machining Supervisor plays a critical role in ensuring the success of the plant by providing leadership and technical support to the Maintenance and Machine Shop teams. This position oversees a team of frontline employees, ensuring equipment reliability, team development, and operational excellence. The role requires hands-on expertise in machining and maintenance, as well as strong leadership and problem-solving skills.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure equipment reliability to maximize line productivity.
- Identify gaps in team knowledge and skills, implementing controls to track and improve capabilities.
- Track and prioritize plant maintenance metrics, including MTBF, MTTR, PM completion, and corrective work completion.
- Ensure proper utilization of the Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Develop and lead a team to address day-to-day operational issues and achieve performance goals.
- Communicate maintenance plans and collaborate cross-functionally to resolve issues and gather resources.
- Build team capability through effective employee relations, hiring, training, and communication.
- Motivate team members to achieve goals and drive performance through KPIs and evaluations.
- Maintain hands-on proficiency in machine shop operations, including manual lathes/mills, CNC operations, and more.
- Administer policies and procedures while prioritizing work requests and coordinating with the Planner.
- Be regularly present on the plant floor, occasionally lifting up to 50 lbs., and operating forklifts or manufacturing equipment.
- Work in varying weather conditions and serve as a technical expert and resource for maintenance personnel.
- Support plant goals and objectives, reporting progress and obstacles to the manager.
- Work off-shift and some weekends as required, with occasional travel (less than 5%).
- Remain compliant with the Code of Conduct and Policies, including the Compliance Policy.
- Ensure adherence to product compliance policies, laws, regulations, and market demands.
- Achieve compliance goals and address demands of the Compliance Management System.
- Raise concerns related to compliance through appropriate channels.
- Bachelor's degree, US military service, or equivalent experience in Engineering, Maintenance, Hydraulics, Machining, Electrical trades, or similar fields.
- Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience in maintenance or operations.
- At least 5 years of experience in preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to build and mentor a team.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- Technical leadership and problem-solving expertise.
- Ability to work cross-functionally and build relationships.
- Proficiency in reading/interpretation of prints, setting tolerances, and selecting/verifying tooling.
- Experience in PLC programming, ladder logic, and mechanical equipment maintenance.
- NIMS or equivalent machining certifications; exposure to G-code edits and CAM software preferred.
- Experience in a technical field, such as mechanical, electrical, or engineering, is strongly preferred.
- Ability to drive change and transition the Maintenance organization to a proactive status.
- Capability to achieve results independently while managing scope, time, and budget effectively.
- Strong mechanical experience and understanding of equipment maintenance.
