Must Have Technical/Functional Skills
- Mainframe DB2 DBA manages, tunes, and secures DB2 databases on IBM z/OS systems, handling backup,
- recovery and performance optimization. Key responsibilities include DDL/DML management, utility scheduling
- (REORG, RUNSTATS), capacity planning, and troubleshooting. Required additional skills include COBOL,
- CICS knowledge, SQL, JCL, and monitoring tools like OPCE.
- DB2 on Mainframe (Primary Responsibility)
- Administer and maintain DB2 for z/OS environments including installation, configuration, and upgrades.
- Perform database tuning, performance optimization, and SQL query analysis.
- Manage backup and recovery strategies, including disaster recovery planning and execution.
- Perform DB2 utilities management (REORG, RUNSTATS, COPY, LOAD, UNLOAD, etc.).
- Support DB2 subsystem performance, buffer pools, logging, storage, and catalog/directory maintenance.
- Ensure database availability, integrity, and security across all mainframe DB2 environments.
- Provide production support including incident resolution, root-cause analysis, and performance troubleshooting.
- Work closely with application development teams on schema changes, data modeling, and SQL guidance.
- Implement and maintain automation, database monitoring, and proactive health checks.
- Strong knowledge of DB2 for z/OS internals, utilities, performance tuning, and database administration
- best practices.
- Experience working with mainframe tools such as ISPF, JCL, RACF, TSO.
- Solid understanding of backup/recovery strategies, disaster recovery, and high availability architecture.
- Proficiency in SQL, database diagnostics, and query tuning.
- Experience with CICS, IMS, or mainframe transaction processing environments.
- Exposure to data replication technologies.
- Knowledge of Db2 Data Sharing, sysplex environments, or large enterprise deployments.
