Lead Software Engineer

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Kforce has a client that is seeking a Lead Software Engineer. This role is hybrid 3x a week in the Vernon Hills/Lincolnshire, IL area.

Summary:

We are seeking a Development Lead to guide a team of engineers in modernizing legacy systems while building innovative, scalable applications. This role blends hands-on technical leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead, mentor, and support a team of developers, fostering collaboration and continuous improvement
• Oversee the design, development, and deployment of backend services, APIs, and applications
• Drive modernization efforts, including transitioning legacy systems to microservices-based architectures
• Partner with product managers and stakeholders to define technical requirements, scope, and delivery timelines
• Establish and enforce coding standards, version control, and CI/CD best practices
• Optimize application performance, scalability, reliability, and security
• Stay current with emerging technologies and recommend improvements where appropriate
  
  

REQUIREMENTS:

• Strong experience building backend services using .NET and/or Java
• Proficiency with relational databases such as SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Oracle
• Solid understanding of API design, integration patterns, and distributed systems
• Experience integrating with CRM platforms and third-party systems
• Strong hands-on experience with AWS
• Proven experience delivering scalable, production-grade applications
  
  

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, including tools such as Harness
• Familiarity with developer assisting tools and productivity tooling
• Experience with Kubernetes (k8s) and containerized workloads
• Knowledge of deployment, caching, and performance optimization strategies
• Exposure to insurance or regulated industry platforms

• Strong communication skills with the ability to translate business needs into technical solutions

The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.

We offer comprehensive benefits including medical/dental/vision insurance, HSA, FSA, 401(k), and life, disability & ADD insurance to eligible employees. Salaried personnel receive paid time off. Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
