The IT Systems Administrator holds a critical role within the Information Technology Department's Network & Transport Division building and supporting the County's Enterprise Communication Network. This role entails complex and specialized work, which encompasses planning, designing, implementing, evaluating, maintaining, and managing complex enterprise data, voice, wireless, and fiber optic networks used to support applications and control systems. The incumbent is responsible for engineering and supporting the county's enterprise communication network.
Duties include but are not limited to analyzing vendor hardware and software, establishing network standards, and leading network design projects, encompassing structured cabling, construction, and fiber optic cabling initiatives. This involves designing local and wide area networks, wireless systems, and fiber optic networks, while also managing network racks and related infrastructure. Thorough knowledge of telecommunications and computer network systems, along with expertise in public telecommunication systems and computer networks, is crucial. Additionally, a comprehensive understanding of various transmission systems, such as fiber optic, microwave, coaxial, twisted pair, wireless, and satellite technologies, is essential.
The incumbent requires proficiency in applicable International, Federal, State, and Local laws related to telecommunications and computer networking, as well as knowledge of County and industry standards and international and national codes governing the design, implementation, and operation of these systems. The ability to design, implement, and integrate complex telecommunication and computer networking systems is fundamental. This role also involves utilizing various project management methods and tools for managing project timelines and deliverables, as well as planning, scheduling, coordinating, and reviewing the work of professional team members. Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, are vital for conveying technical strategies and solutions. The incumbent must be able to communicate effectively to stakeholders at all levels and personify the integrity of established service level commitments along with establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with subordinates, superiors, and a diverse range of public and private officials.
