Your role and responsibilities

IBM has openings for Hardware Development Engineers to develop, test and provide customer support for hardware, firmware and semiconductors that make up our industry- leading IBM products. We are an elite team of engineering professionals that pioneer innovations for the cutting-edge microprocessors and hardware used in IBM infrastructure including IBM zSystems, IBM Power Systems, IBM Storage, and IBM Quantum Systems. Development engineers participate in various aspects of the development, test, and support process, such as:

  • Design, develop, and validate cable assemblies, harnesses, and interconnect solutions for IBM Tape Libraries.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and systems engineering teams to ensure proper routing, signal integrity, and compliance with EMC standards.
  • Generate and manage documentation: wiring diagrams, cable drawings, specifications, and BOMs using tools such as Catia
  • Work with suppliers and manufacturing teams to ensure quality and manufacturability of cable components.
  • Perform troubleshooting and root cause analysis for cable-related issues during prototyping and production.
  • Ensure adherence to IBM's hardware development processes and industry standards.
  • Candidates with at least three months of computer or electrical engineering experience in cable assemblies, harnesses, and interconnectivity are preferred.

Required technical and professional expertise

A Bachelor's Degree in: Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Optics Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or related majors.

Prior (project or internship) experience in computer hardware or testing.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Passion for technology and engineering.

Growth minded, trusted, team focused, courageous, resourceful, and outcome focused.

Preferred Technical And Professional Experience

Preferred candidates with a Master's Degree and/or at least three months of computer or electrical engineering experience in cable assemblies, harnesses, and interconnectivity are preferred.

The compensation range and benefits for this position are based on a full-time schedule for a full calendar year. The salary will vary depending on your job-related skills, experience and location. Pay increment and frequency of pay will be in accordance with employment classification and applicable laws. For part time roles, your compensation and benefits will be adjusted to reflect your hours. Benefits may be pro-rated for those who start working during the calendar year.
