Position Overview:
The GIS Engineer / Data Manager will be responsible for managing and maintaining the GDOT s enterprise GIS data, including data models, multi-user versioned geodatabases, and associated applications. This role ensures that spatial data resources are accurate, accessible, and optimized to support the department s planning, design, maintenance, and operational functions. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Esri technologies, data management, and geospatial workflows within a transportation or infrastructure context.
Key Responsibilities:
Administer, manage, and maintain GDOT s enterprise GIS data and multi-user versioned geodatabases.
Design, implement, and maintain geospatial data models to support departmental business processes.
Perform data integration, migration, and conversion between various spatial and non-spatial systems.
Ensure spatial data quality, consistency, and compliance with GDOT data standards and best practices.
Collaborate with IT, engineering, and planning teams to deliver GIS data and mapping support for applications and projects.
Develop and document data management workflows, metadata standards, and procedures.
Support the deployment and maintenance of GIS web services, applications, and dashboards using Esri ArcGIS Enterprise and ArcGIS Online.
Provide technical guidance and support to staff on GIS data access, editing, and usage.
Monitor database performance, perform data backups, and ensure data security.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor s degree in Geography, GIS, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
Proven experience managing enterprise-level GIS databases and data models using Esri ArcGIS products (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcSDE, ArcGIS Online).
Strong understanding of geodatabases (file, enterprise, versioned) and data management principles.
Experience with data migration, data transformation, and integration between spatial and non-spatial systems.
Proficiency in SQL, Python, or ModelBuilder for geoprocessing and automation.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with transportation-related GIS systems or government agency datasets.
Familiarity with GDOT data standards, workflows, or enterprise GIS environment.
Knowledge of Esri Portal for ArcGIS, ArcGIS Server administration, and web services.
Experience in data versioning, editing workflows, and multi-user environments.
Ability to troubleshoot and optimize GIS database performance.
Certifications (Preferred):
Esri Technical Certification .
Equivalent GIS or data management certifications may be considered.
