As a Security Systems Installer, you'll work in residential homes installing, programming, and supporting security technology, including:
- Installation and programming of:
- Burglar alarm systems
- CCTV systems (IP & Analog)
- DVRs
- Access control systems
- Installing sensors such as:
- Door and window contacts
- Glass break detectors
- Smoke detectors
- Troubleshooting signal and connectivity issues
- Testing and verifying system signals
- Training homeowners on:
- System operation
- Mobile app connectivity
- Equipment usage and best practices
- Completing required customer documentation
- Accurately tracking and costing materials used per job
- Maintaining accurate truck inventory
- Delivering top-tier customer service on every visit
- Achieving performance goals, including:
- 90% goal attainment
- Zero installation "go-backs"
Week 1 - Paid classroom & LMS training at a local branch
Week 2 - Ride-along field training with a senior technician
Week 3 - Hands-on installations with senior tech oversight
Weeks 4-5 - Continued field training until fully independent
- Training is paid at a training pay rate
- Once independent, technicians are moved to full active technician pay
You don't need prior alarm experience to apply. Successful technicians often come from backgrounds such as:
- Construction, electrical, cable, or low voltage
- Mechanical or technical trades
- HVAC, automotive, or field service
- Military or hands-on vocational education
- Customer-facing roles that required technical problem solving
Required Skills & Traits
- Comfortable using hand and power tools
- Basic understanding of wiring, construction, or technology
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Reliable, punctual, and adaptable
- Customer-focused mindset with strong problem-solving abilities
- Able to read customer cues and explain technical concepts clearly
- Comfortable working inside homes and at heights (ladder use)
Candidate-Provided (can build over time):
- Ladder (foldable or extension recommended; Little Giant Velocity Model 17 is suggested)
- Basic tools including:
- Screwdrivers
- Electric drill
- Wire cutters
- Hand sheetrock saw
Provided:
- PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)
- Uniform polo shirts
- Reliable personal vehicle required
- Most work is within the local metro area
- Some travel up to a 2-hour radius (not daily)
- Up to $100/week gas reimbursement (with receipts)
- Mileage over 300 miles/week can be expensed separately
- Typical schedules:
- Monday-Friday or Tuesday-Saturday
- Overtime and sixth-day work may be available (never forced)
- End times vary - technicians stay until the job is completed (5 PM, 6 PM, or later)
