• Location: Chantilly, VA (This is an on-site position involving precision lab work at facilities throughout the greater Dulles, VA area).
• Schedule (9/80): Employees work 9 out of every 14 days, totaling 80 hours worked, and have every other Friday off.
• Target Salary: $116,500.

Job Summary

We have an immediate need for an Engineering Technician to join a talented team and support customers. We are seeking a technical professional with hands-on experience in building, testing, or assembling precision components who will help build, integrate, and test photonic components into larger system assemblies.

We are looking for candidates with a solid technical foundation from electronics, mechanical systems, optical work, machine shop operations, or related fields, who can read and follow technical specifications and work with precision equipment.

Experience interpreting engineering drawings, following detailed procedures, working with machining equipment (lathes, mills, CNC), or working in lab/manufacturing environments is transferable. While photonics experience is a plus, it is not required, as comprehensive on-the-job training will be provided to help technicians from other technical disciplines learn photonics-specific skills, including fiber optics handling, optical alignment techniques, and specialized testing procedures.

Essential Functions

• Execute fabrication, assembly, integration, test, or inspection processes in accordance with detailed work instructions and drawings, such as: Optical Fiber Splicing and Recoating, Fabrication, assembly, and inspection of photonic circuits, Mechanical Builds and Assemblies, Metal Soldering, Microscopy and Profilometry.
• Experience with machining parts with standard tooling and shop equipment.
• Integration of COTS optical equipment (power meters & monitoring equipment, optical laser sources, etc.) per detailed architecture block diagrams and wiring diagrams.
• Assistance with equipment calibration in accordance with vender or custom calibration procedures.
• Communicate regularly with management to ensure team is meeting expectations for cost, schedule, and quality.
• Ensure preventative maintenance is performed regularly in accordance with documentation.
• Maintain and operate wire bonding, photomasking, epoxy application, and other systems commonly used for optical device fabrication.
• Maintain high standards for cleanliness, workspace organization, and reliability.
• Experience with precision building and assembly operations.
• Working knowledge of engineering processes and methodologies.
• Ability to interpret and execute technical specifications.
  
  

Qualifications

• Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 6 years of prior relevant experience or 2 years post-Secondary/Associates Degree with a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience.
• Clearance: Active Top Secret/SCI with CI Poly clearance is required.
