Job Description:
- Client's Powertrain Design (PDC) team is looking for a passionate, highly-motivated Design Engineer with an interest in Driveline systems to help develop a multitude of torque transferring components.
- Within the first two years, the primary responsibilities of this role are to support the design of Driveline components for an upcoming project by: Collaborating with stakeholders, such as suppliers, Purchasing, Client manufacturing plants, Vehicle Design groups, and Client Japan through:
- Simultaneous Engineering with potential suppliers, including visits to their manufacturing plant.
- Issue of Client owned drawings and/or supplied parts specifications.
- Working with Supplier and Vehicle Plants to support trials and ensure a smooth product/vehicle launch.
- Working with customer facing groups to ensure no issues for customer vehicles.
- Reporting to the Driveline Design Manager, the person in this role will support the PDE department's objective to build "World Class Powertrains in North America.
- Creating validated 3D models, 2D drawings, and supplier spec sheets utilizing the standard design process.
- Leading Design Reviews for your responsible parts to show how your design achieves its function and targets.
- Developing counter-measures to gaps such as cost, mass, durability, strength, and warranty rate based on data and engineering mindset.
- Building relationships with key stakeholders (such as vehicle design, TMC driveline design, Supplier Development teams, purchasing, and assembly plants).
- Managing NA suppliers to ensure on-time delivery of quality parts in line with the requirements of each Client milestone.
- Benchmarking similar designs to improve our customer experience and cost.
What you bring:
- Bachelor of Science of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field of study.
- 5 years in automotive design/development, specifically in developing Transfer Cases, Differentials, Propshafts, and Driveshafts
- Demonstrable CAD skills and knowledge of GD&T.
- Experience in the detailed design and release of prototype and production component drawings and supplier spec sheets.
- Knowledge of typical automotive manufacturing methods (i.e. Aluminum and Iron Castings, Forgings, Machining, Thermoplastics, and Rubber Molding).
- Proficiency with Excel and PowerPoint.
- Strong knowledge of conventional, hybrid and electrified drivelines.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
- Team-oriented thinking and a "can-do attitude.
- Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or other related technical fields.
- Hands-on experience with driveline/powertrain assemblies.
- Experience with Catia, FEA, Vehicle NVH, and Vehicle Simulations.
- A working knowledge of DRBFM.
- A working knowledge of Quality Management and Supply Chain Management principles.
- Experience working in a multi-cultural environment.
