Vaco by Highspring is seeking an experienced Director of IT for Dallas-based client who will play a critical leadership role in transforming and stabilizing the organization’s technology environment across a growing multi-site healthcare platform. IT is viewed as a strategic value driver for the business, and this role will focus on improving operational efficiency, strengthening cybersecurity, and establishing governance across a currently fragmented technology landscape. This position will lead efforts to standardize systems, improve vendor accountability, reduce operational friction at the clinic-level, and introduce data-driven IT management practices. Success will be measured by stronger processes, improved security posture, clearer performance metrics, and the elimination of redundant or inefficient systems—not by hands-on technical execution. The Director of IT will serve as the organization’s primary technology leader responsible for strategy, oversight, and operational effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities:
IT Leadership & Vendor Management
- Serve as the primary technology leader responsible for IT governance, strategy execution, and operational oversight.
- Manage the IT landscape service function that enhances the experience of patients, providers, and internal teams.
- Manage and oversee the organization’s Managed Service Provider (MSP) relationship in addition to other 3rd party services providers.
- Hold external vendors accountable for service quality, security standards, and contractual performance.
- Evaluate current technology spend and vendor structure to determine whether investments are aligned with business priorities.
- Assess opportunities to rebalance resources between external vendors and internal capabilities.
- Bring order, visibility, and accountability to the IT environment while enabling the business to scale efficiently.
- Establish a clear vision for the organization’s cybersecurity posture and define measurable security standards.
- Implement governance, controls, and monitoring processes to ensure appropriate protection of HIPAA and PII-regulated data.
- Provide leadership oversight of cybersecurity programs currently managed through the MSP.
- Develop and track security metrics to monitor risk exposure and improvement over time.
- Drive a process-oriented approach to IT operations through documentation, standard operating procedures, and system governance.
- Document key workflows, systems, and operational practices across the IT environment.
- Reduce complexity and system fragmentation across multiple clinic locations.
- Support integration and standardization as the organization grows through acquisitions or expansion.
- Establish clear KPIs and dashboards to manage IT performance and vendor accountability.
- Track and report on metrics including:
- MSP service performance
- System availability and reliability
- Cybersecurity indicators and risk posture
- Use data and operational metrics to prioritize improvement initiatives and guide decision-making.
- Provide oversight of the organization’s technology ecosystem, including core business applications and analytics platforms.
- Evaluate opportunities for system consolidation, optimization, and cost efficiency across the technology stack.
- Key systems include:
- Practice Management System
- Data Warehouse (Snowflake)
- Business Intelligence Platform
- Collaborate with external BI consultants and internal finance leadership on reporting and analytics capabilities.
- Reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
- Initial direct report: Practice Management Specialist responsible for training, access management, system upgrades, and implementations.
- The Managed Service Provider (MSP) operates under the direction of this role, in addition to a co-managed third-party Business Intelligence service provider
- Opportunity to assess and evolve the IT organizational structure as systems and priorities mature.
Required
- 8 years of experience in IT leadership, IT operations management, or technology governance roles.
- Experience managing third-party vendors, managed service providers, or outsourced IT environments.
- Demonstrated ability to implement process improvement, governance, and operational metrics within IT organizations.
- Strong understanding of IT risk management and cybersecurity oversight principles.
- Experience managing technology environments across multi-site operational organizations.
- Strong bonus for candidates with prior merger and acquisitions (M&A) integrations experience, systems standardization, and/or practice onboarding
- Experience supporting healthcare or regulated environments, including familiarity with HIPAA or Personal Identifiable Information (PII) protections.
- Strong bonus for prior experience leading IT landscapes for multi-site Dental practice operations.
Salary : $160,000 - $190,000
