Business Planner / Data Specialist

What You Will Be Doing

Visual Communications is seeking a strategic, data-driven Business Planner Senior Staff to partner with the Project Management team and leadership in driving operational excellence, fiscal transparency, and informed decision-making.

This role serves as a senior thought partner responsible for developing highly innovative solutions to complex operational and analytical challenges. This role is responsible for overseeing the integrity of our project management systems, pulling metrics to analyze performance, and translating complex data into clear, actionable insights. By identifying and developing meaningful dashboards, reports, and analytics capabilities, the Business Planner consults with leadership to identify trends, mitigate risk, strengthen accountability, and support our commitment to a "Value Always" mindset.

The Business Planner plays a critical role in ensuring our data accurately reflects the impact, efficiency, and fiscal stewardship of the Visual Communications organization. This position operates with consultative direction toward long-range goals and objectives, frequently self-initiating assignments and independently identifying opportunities to enhance systems, reporting frameworks, and governance models in response to evolving business needs.

Key Responsibilities

Data Strategy & Analytics

  • Collect, process, and analyze project and financial data to generate actionable insights
  • Develop dashboards, reports, and visual narratives that communicate performance trends and business outcomes
  • Define, refine, and evolve key performance indicators (KPIs), including resource allocation, budget health, speed to deliver, and overall performance effectiveness
  • Identify risks, inefficiencies, or opportunities based on data analysis and provide recommendations for mitigation

Systems Administration & Governance

  • Serve as senior administrator for the Visual Communications project management system (Workamajig)
  • Architect and implement data governance standards to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency
  • Monitor active project reporting to ensure proper data input and support accountability across the project management and creative team
  • Triage and resolve data integrity issues in a timely manner

Operational & Fiscal Support

  • Consult with leadership on long-range planning, forecasting models, and financial scenario analysis
  • Lead preparation and execution of monthly reporting and project closure documentation
  • Develop mechanisms to improve visibility into workload, capacity, and financial performance
  • Evaluate and implement new analytics tools, automation capabilities, and reporting enhancements to increase organizational maturity

Collaboration & Enablement

  • Partner with Associate Managers and Project Managers to reinforce system best practices
  • Collaborate with Business Operation team members to ensure financial accuracy and accountability
  • Provide onboarding, system setup, and training for new team members in project management system and workflow
  • Represent Aeronautics in cross-Business Area (BA) collaboration and OneLM initiatives, influencing enterprise-level data strategy alignment
  • Provide backup support to Project Managers as needed

Basic Qualifications

8 years of experience in project management, project controls, business planning or data analytics operations

Demonstrated experience building and maintaining data governance or reporting systems

Experience with project management and data tools such as Workamajig, AirTable, or similar systems

Experience analyzing large datasets and translating findings into executive-level insights

Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy

Desired Skills

Experience in the defense and aerospace industry

Experience supporting creative or Visual Communications organizations

Experience building dashboards and analytics tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms)

Strong executive communication and presentation skills

Experience driving process improvements based on data insights

    Ability to work remotely

    Part-time Remote Telework: The employee selected for this position will work part of their work schedule remotely and part of their work schedule at a designated Lockheed Martin facility. The specific weekly schedule will be discussed during the hiring process.

    Work Schedule Information

    Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.

    National Pay Statement

    Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in California, Massachusetts, and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington or Washington DC is $106,100 - $187,105. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate's final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.

    Benefits offered: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Short-Term Disability, Long-Term Disability, 401(k) match, Flexible Spending Accounts, EAP, Education Assistance, Parental Leave, Paid time off, and Holidays.

    (Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.

    This position is incentive plan eligible.

    Premium Pay Statement

    Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in most major metropolitan areas in California, Massachusetts, and New York is $122,000 - $211,485. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate's final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.
