We are seeking a visionary Senior Airframe Architect to lead the structural architecture for our next-generation Blended Wing Body (BWB) aircraft program. This role will drive innovation in large composite airframe design while strengthening the organization s Materials & Processes (M&P) capability and certification strategy.
Key Responsibilities
Airframe Architecture & Configuration
- Define and mature the structural architecture of the BWB airframe.
- Lead multidisciplinary trade studies involving aerodynamics, propulsion integration, payload, and structural efficiency.
- Ensure manufacturability, maintainability, safety, and regulatory compliance are incorporated early in the design.
- Oversee structural integration of key systems including landing gear, propulsion, cabin/cargo, and EWIS.
- Advance the program s composites technology strategy and structural concepts.
- Develop and refine M&P specifications for prepreg, out-of-autoclave, AFP, stitched composites, and hybrid material systems.
- Lead structural test programs (coupon, element, subcomponent, and full-scale).
- Maintain material allowables databases aligned with certification requirements.
- Develop the structural certification strategy for a novel BWB aircraft under Part 25 regulations.
- Work closely with regulatory authorities such as the Federal Aviation Administration and European Union Aviation Safety Agency.
- Ensure compliance with structural substantiation, safety analysis, durability, and damage tolerance requirements.
- Collaborate with teams across aerodynamics, propulsion, loads & dynamics, and stability & control.
- Manage interfaces across major structural assemblies.
- Bridge conceptual design, detailed engineering, and manufacturing development.
- Serve as the technical authority for airframe structures and composites.
- Build and mentor a high-performance structural engineering team.
- Represent the airframe organization to executives, partners, and external stakeholders.
- Bachelor s or Master s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Structural Engineering (PhD preferred).
- 20 years of experience in aircraft structural design or materials engineering.
- Experience with large composite airframe development and certification under Part 25.
- Strong background in composites manufacturing technologies (AFP, resin infusion, stitching, OOA).
- Experience with M&P specifications, test programs, and structural allowables.
- Familiarity with multidisciplinary design optimization (MDO) and structural sizing.
- Experience working with FAA/EASA certification processes.
- Proven leadership building technical teams and organizational capability.
- Experience with novel aircraft configurations such as Blended Wing Body or high-aspect-ratio wings.
- Hands-on involvement in full-scale structural testing.
- Familiarity with digital thread environments (CAD, FEA, PLM) for composite structures.
- Experience managing technology maturation and TRL development.
