JMG is looking to fill our opening at Portland Arts and Technology High School, Portland, ME (Cumberland County) for our next JMG CTE Specialist.
Our CTE Specialists provide new learning opportunities for students and offer support and guidance as students gain the skills and motivation needed to participate in community and workplace activities, graduate from high school, and pursue continued education.
Career and Technical Education (CTE) allows Maine students the opportunity for applied learning and helps them enhance their skills while preparing to enter the workforce. CTE programs are in-depth training experiences while also supporting exploration into career pathways for middle and high school students.

Essential Functions:
  • Provides appropriate curriculum and ensures students achieve specific JMG competencies through classroom instruction; teaches through a variety of methods including lecture, hands-on activities, and team teaching; tailors the program and teaching methods for the needs of each specific student, and implements an intervention strategy for each individual.
  • Act as a liaison with the business community, connecting local area businesses to individual student pathways and aspirations including facilitating pre-apprenticeships and apprenticeships.
  • Administers career interest surveys. Establishes and implements a career development plan for all enrolled students.
  • Ensures positive perceptions of the JMG program within schools by developing and maintaining positive, effective working relationships with school personnel including teachers, administrators, and students.
  • Ensures the high quality of JMG programming and model standards are being met at their site (for example, serving a minimum of 65% economically disadvantaged students)
  • Advocates for the program and develops a pool of effective community support resources by working with employers, parents, civic groups, and legislators to build awareness of and support for the program; develops job opportunities, participates in public relations activities, attends meetings and speaks to various community groups.
  • Coordinating training opportunities through hands-on activities, guest speakers, and workshops; assists with civic and social opportunities.
  • Provides students with guidance, counseling, and support within appropriate limits; refers students to additional support services on an as-needed basis; takes responsibility for learning and complying with school policies such as mandated reporting, discipline, attendance, and the like.
  • Complies with all documentation requirements in a timely fashion including contacts and activities involving students, employers, and other groups; develops and maintains a well-organized filing system.
  • Assists students in finding and maintaining quality employment and/or post-secondary educational programs upon graduation; works closely with students and employers for 12 months after the end of the school year to ensure a satisfactory employment outcome.
  • Participates in staff, regional, and state-wide meetings, and staff development activities
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Performs various school-related functions such as lunch duty.
  • Participates in field trips.
  • Completes special projects and other projects/duties as assigned by the Regional Director

  • Must have Maine CHRC approval (or be eligible for Maine CHRC)
  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Experience working with youth accompanied by knowledge of child development.
  • Skills in human relations, classroom management, and motivational techniques.
  • Ability to work 12 months per year.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities.
  • Ability to establish appropriate boundaries while developing and nurturing supportive relationships with students.

The position will begin August 2026
Compensation and Benefits:
  • Salary: $43,750 per year, with additional performance-based bonuses.
  • Paid Time Off: Includes school vacation weeks in December, February, and April, plus 15 additional vacation days.
  • Sick Leave: 3 weeks of sick time and 1 week of Covid time

  • Ability to develop curriculum and educational opportunities consistent with the JMG model, including the JMG Maine Career Exploration Model and its 30 competencies.
  • Ability to educate a variety of constituencies and interested parties about the program by developing ongoing relationships with local business leaders, employers, and community partners.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications, including word processing, and familiarity with using technology tools for classroom instruction and student support.

Salary : $43,750
