Out-of-School Youth Specialist (Employee Position)

Location: Primarily remote within the Santa Fe/Espanola area; regular in-person work at program sites required

Start Date: November 2025

Hours: Full Time, Exempt

Compensation: $50,000–$56,000 per year DOE

Position Summary

The Out-of-School Youth (OOS) Specialist recruits, supports, and guides young people to complete a high school diploma or GED/HSE and transition successfully into employment or postsecondary education. Using the JAG Model, the Specialist delivers trauma-informed, project-based learning and provides long-term, holistic support to participants.

Core Responsibilities

  • Deliver JAG competencies through project-based and experiential learning tailored to participant needs.
  • Recruit eligible participants through community outreach and partnerships; assess program fit using JAG guidelines.
  • Develop and maintain Individualized Development Plans (IDPs) for each participant.
  • Build strong, trust-based relationships with participants, employers, community agencies, and Advisory Committee members.
  • Facilitate service-learning projects, field trips, job shadows, and leadership opportunities through the Professional Association.
  • Provide one-on-one coaching and connect participants to wraparound supports and resources.
  • Track all services and contacts in the JAG National Database and maintain accurate, organized records.
  • Support participants during a 12-month follow-up period after program completion.
  • Attend staff meetings, professional development sessions, and statewide trainings.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent experience accepted.
  • Experience working with disconnected youth and utilizing trauma-informed approaches.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and build trusted, supportive relationships.
  • Proficiency with technology platforms such as Google Workspace and Video Conferencing.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience developing and implementing IDPs using evidence-based career development strategies.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and occasional weekends to meet participant needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to guide youth toward independent decision-making and exploration of career or educational options.
  • Capacity to adapt communication and coaching styles to meet diverse learning and cultural needs.

Professional Development Requirements

  • Complete JAG training modules (Foundations, Trauma-Informed Care, and Project-Based Learning).
  • Attend the National Training Seminar (NTS) each July.
  • Actively engage in state and local workshops, collaborative meetings, and peer learning opportunities.

Implementation of the JAG Model

  • Fully implement the JAG Out-of-School Youth Program in accordance with the official JAG Handbook.
  • Collaborate with fellow Specialists to share best practices and foster innovation.
  • Provide constructive feedback to strengthen future program delivery and outcomes.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $50,000.00 - $56,000.00 per year
